9F-June_27, 1976 Two Runs Coming Up In Putnam Putnam County will be the capital of road running in this area in a period from late July to early August. Two runs of about six miles will be conducted by the Putnam County Parks and Recreation Commission July 24 and Aug. 7. The Aug. 7 event is the second annual Putnam County Midway Fair Run. A new event, the Great Teays Run, will be held July 24. Mike Ellis of the Putnam County Parks and Recreation Commission will be race director of both runs. Both have been sanctioned by the West Virginia AAU, and both should be great conditioners for the Labor Day weekend Charleston 15-Mile Distance Run. The Great Teays Run, sponsored by the Great Teays Corp., will start on Rocky Stepp Road and finish near Teays Valley National Bank. Each of the top 50 finishers will win a flag. The winner will receive the state flag of Delaware, the first state accepted into the union, and the 35th placer will earn a West Virginia flag, the 35th state. The Putnam County Midway Fair Run, won last year by Marshall University's Jerry Dotson, will start at Adda Baptist Church and wind up at Hurricane High School. Each run will be divided into these classes: women, boys 16 and under, men 17 to 20, men 21 to 29, men 30 to 39, men 40 to 49 and men 50 and over. Competitive Dance Couple David Moore and Cynthia Harris, Charleston's first competitive figure skating couple, will be featured in a "Pop Concert" at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Civic Center Ice Arena. Admission is free. Football Officials Workshop Scheduled at W. Va. State West Virginia State's Office of Continuing Education and Community Service will offer a two-week workshop in football officiating beginning Monday, Aug. 2. The workshop is being made available for the purpose of retraining experienced football officials and fulfilling the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission requirement for first-year officials. The course is also open to the nonofficiating public. The workshop w i l l meet M o n d a y through Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the W. Va. State gymnasium. Participants may register at 7 p.m., Aug. 2, by paying the required workshop fee of $22 plus $3 for rulebooks and officials manuals. Additional information can be obtained by contacting workshop instructor Bob Maxwell at 766-3165. Moore, Foster Win Michele Moore and^Michelle Foster of Charleston won itef 12-and-under girls' doubles championships of the State Closed Tennis Tournament Thursday in Huntington. Bob Jacobs won the West Virginia Junior Closed boys 16 singles title Saturday with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mark Holstein. Both boys are from Charleston.The match was rained out Thursday. Bethany Coach Quits Dave Sauer, 33, has resigned as Bethany College's coach after five seasons. The Pittsburgh native says he will become head coach at ChurchillArea High School in the Pittsburgh area. His career record at Bethany was 39-63. Tyler Names Coach Tom Haught has been named head coach in two sports at Tyler County High School. Haught, who has been the head football coach at Tyler that past three years, was also named head basketball coach at the Class A school. Edgewood Tourney Bob White, Vince Paterno and Stan Sargent tied for first place in the Edgewood Country Club Blind Bogey Sweepstakes Saturday. The winning number was 75. Putnam Cage Camp Registration will be held between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Monday for the Putnam County basketball game, running from Monday through Friday at Poca High School. Girls between the seventh and 12th grades and boys from the firth through 10th grades are eligible. Registration fee is $37. Eastern Coal Camp Eastern Associated Coal Corp. is now opening its basketball came to all boys ages 11 to seniors in high school. The camp will be held July 11-July 16 at Concord College. Tom "Saich" Sanders, the former great player with the Boston Celtics and current head basketball coach at Harvard Univ- ersity, will direct the camp.
