ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS FOR A M E R I C A N L I T E R A T U R E SERIES then submitted to a specially-empaneled Advisory Board of literary authorities, who made the final selection. The result of their efforts-TVie 100 Greatest Masterpieces oj American Literature--is the most important and significant book collection in the history of our nation. So that families will be able to acquire this extraordinary book collection and pass it along to future generations, The Franklin Library was appointed to publish The 100 Greatest Masterpieces oj American Literature in a magnificent special edition. Created in honor of the Bicentennial, this will be the only complete collection of these 100 great literary works ever to be published. Each book in this special edition will be newly designed and illustrated, bound in genuine leather, ornamented in gold and printed on the finest papers. Moreover, each volume will be custom-bound to last for generations. For this was conceived to be a true heirloom collection in every respect--one to be treasured for all time. The 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature will be issued in strictly limited edition--exclusively for those who enter subscriptions for the scries. The books will be privately printed and sent to subscribers on a convenient monthly basis. None of these special leather- bound volumes will be sold in bookstores or even in rare book galleries. Furthermore, because of its monumental importance, the collection has been designated as an official commemorative of our nation's Bicentennial and will be so certified in every volume.
