Individually designed volumes Each volume will be individually designed. No two books will be alike-even the sizes of the books will vary throughout the collection. The handsome binding designs will be created by masters of the art of book design. In keeping with the high quality of the collection, the binding design for each book will be worked in the leather cover in 22 karat gold. And this fine gold ornamentation will appear not only on the front cover but on the spine and back cover as well. In addition, the pages of each volume will be fully edged in 22 karat gold. Crafted with exceptional detail Traditionally, the very finest handcrafted leather-bound books were distinguished by the "hubbing" of the spines -raised horizontal ridges along the backbone which set these volumes apart from ordinary cloth-bound editions. True to this tradition, the spines of all of the leather- bound volumes in The 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature will be "hubbed." Furthermore, the endsheets of each volume will be crafted of fine moire fabric and each book will also include a distinctive ribbon marker. Lastly, the paper on which each book is printed will be milled especially for this collection.
