CBS. Q (E NEWS SPECIAL. "A Tale of Two Irelands." (Repeat) Startling, informative. It is a most penetrating account of what five years of unrelenting violence, and terrorism can do to a supposedly civilized society. CBS News Correspondent John Laurence took a camera crew to both sides of the Irish border to report on the politics, the rhetoric and the tragedy of the on-going civil war between Catholics and Protestants. Laurence reports that in 1974 alone, there were 3,000 shootings and 3,500 bombings in Northern Ireland. It's a situation he calls "modern industrial society traveling in reverse--breaking down not just into territories, but into tribes." In social clubs, we meet men who live under the constant threat of. violence and in a constant state of readiness to retaliate. On patrol with British troops, the cam- era crew comes under sniper fire and watches a gang of small boys burn trucks on a barricaded street.
