Robert Wagner, Cliff Robertson, Edward Albert, James Coburn, Robert Webber, Ed Nelson, Gregory Walcott, and Dabney Colemah are featured in "Midway," now show ing at the Virginian Theater. ZZ Top's tour drawing attention By Jim Carnes That "Little ol' band from Texas," Z Z Top, will appear in concert here June 30, and London Records, the group's label, is calling the current production "the biggest tour in the history of rock 'n' roll." I don't know if I'd go that far, but Z Z's Worldwide Texas Tour is a major production. The appearance for the entire tour is more than 2 million, London says, and already the band has broken attendance records at early concerts. Z Z Top will appear in more than 100 American cities. ._What's special about the concert "is the tremendous production the band is making of it. The group has always been straight-ahead musically, content to stand on stage surrounded by that giant wall of amps and just make music. Not so this time, however. With a Texas-shaped stage, Southwestern flora and fauna (including a pure-bred Longhorn steer and a 2,000 Ib. black buffalo), an elaborate sound system and special effects, Z Z Top's latest tour is sure to draw attention. The band currently has four record albums: First Album, Rio Grande Mud, Tres Hombres, and P-.-Fandango. Barbara Pepe, chief of promotions at London Records, by the way, says the label expects a very good summer. In addition to a new Z Z Top album, which will be released after the tour, London has 'some quite good products to offer. For example: r. f- Savoy Brown. The group recently completed a two-month tour, which drew large crowds and quite.goqd reviews. The band's lat- 20m CHARLESTON. W. VA. est album, Skin 'n Bone is a real rocker. Kim Simmonds shines. - ·· John Miles. This English singer is planning a midsummer American tour, and when he starts performing live on these shores, sales of his album Rebel should soar. Miles has gained wild praise in England (they're calling him the new James Dean) for the album and especially for the song Music from it. »· Al Green. "Touring has also aided the sales of this performer's album Full of Fire," says Herb Goldfarb, vice president of sales and marketing for the label. Green has appeared at major nightclubs in Las Vegas and has presented a series of concerts at the Uris Theater on Broadway. · Michael Finder. This member of the Moody Blues has released an excellent solo album called The Promise. Finder has just finished a 9-city promotional tour that took him to Seattle, Eugene, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas, and Denver. Ray Thomas, another Moody Blues member, has a solo effort expected within the next couple of · months. t£t 86 ($3 sfc -%5^$! CHINESE 8.
