Suspenseful, brilliantly acted, and expertly directed by Sidney Lumet. The whole cast is near perfect, but Jack Warden's performance deserves special recognition. »· "DAISY KENYON," (1947) **V 2 , 1:30 p.m., Cable channel 10, with Joan Crawford and Henry Fonda. A woman must choose between her lover, who has a wife and family, and the man she married on the rebound. Well-done film, but a bore. "CAROLINA CANNONBALL, (1955) *%, 2 p.m., cable channel 2, with Judy Canova and Andy Clyde. Hillbilly girl runs afoul of foreign agents after control of an atomic- powered missile. For corn-lovers exclusively. »- "A BREATH OF SCANDAL, (1959)**, 2:30 p.m., CD with Sophia Loren and Maurice Chevalier. Young American in Vienna rescues a princess, falls for her, is hampered by court protocol. Stale romance despite pretty costumes, production. Loren and Chevalier the sole assets otherwise. "VIVA ZAPATA!" (1952)***", 4:30 p.m., 8 with Marlon Brando and Anthony Quin. Excellent historical drama of Mexican revolutionary leader, Emiliano Zapata. Follows his rise from peon to the presidency of Mexico. Kazan directed the John Steinbeck script. ^ "JOHNNY HOLIDAY," (1949) ***V4, 5 p.m., cable channel 2, with William Bendix and Stanley Clements. Delinquent boy is reformed at the Indiania Boys' School. Authentic, forcefull drama has good air of sincerity. "MY SWEET CHARLIE," (1970) ***%, 11:30 p.m., 10 with Patty Duke and Al Freeman Jr. Excellent made-fpr-TV feature. Though this drama is based on highly contrived situation, its principal characters are so extremely well drawn and so superbly played by Freeman and Duke, you will find yourself wanting to stay with it until the end. In a remote Louisiana resort area, closed up during the off-season, a young pregnant girl, thrown out by her father, takes refuge in a cottage. Her solitary wait for the arrival of her child is broken when a young black lawyer, also on the run, decides jto hide out in the same house. Based on the short-lived Broadway play. *· "CONSPIRACY OF THE BORGIAS," (1965) * J / 2 , 11:30 p.m., © with Frank Latimore and Constance Smith. Cesare and Lucretia Borgia devise means to come into possession of valuable documents in this English-dubbed costume drama. Over-stuffed frequently dull. "STARDUST," (1940) **% 11:30 p.m.. O with Linda Darnell and John Payne. Story of young hopefuls trying to break through in Hollywood is mildly entertaining.
