Tthe favorite crossed the line at the end of the 1%-mile race just ahead of Furioso, ridden by Andy Murray. ^ . D i v i d e l , ridden by Willy 'Carson, finished third, but the American horse, Matuta, was awarded third after Dividel lost his saddle in the homestretch. The winner was listed as the 3-1 choice. Furioso and Matuta were 16-1 shots. Polygamy's victory was worth $97,533 to her owners. Second prize was $28,828 and third $14,210. Alfa-Romeo, lying second to Matra in the world sports car championship, withdrew its four-car entry last week on grounds of expense, and the Ferrari factory is not contesting the championship this year. Only two British Gulf-Fords out ofjhe field of more than 50 ca'-Siwill provide any seri- ous opposition to the blue Matras for an outright victory: Outsiders include three of the French Ligier-Maseratis, and two turbo-charged Porsche Carrera coupes. The sports category includes an aging Ferrari 312b entered by Luigi Chinetti's- North American racing team, from Greenwich, Conn., who is also running the new Ferrari V-8 Dino and three Ferrari Daytonas in the grand touring class. There are a pair of superannuated Porsche 908 speedsters--one of which finished seventh last-year--and a Lola in the three-liter class, with two-liter cars including a Japanese rotary-engineed Sigma to njlke up the sports runners.
