An absorbing mini-submarine rescue attempt manages to keep the tension building despite the fact that most of the action is told in flashbacks during a Navy inquiry into the incident. The film mirrors a similar real-life story of four men who were trapped in a mini-sub a couple of years ago. Lee J. Cobb plays the inventor of the mini-sub, who has to wait out the rescue attempt aboard the research sub's mother vessel, and Martin Balsam is cast as a junk scavenger whose ship is in the area. 3:30 0 CD Match Game 0 ® One Life to Live 9 Spotlight Cf) Yoga You 4:00 0 Mr. Cartoon ® Gilligan's Island ® © © Somerset O Musical Chairs CD Bonanza 0 Mike Douglas ® You Don't Say 9 Cf) Sesame Street 4:30 O Bewitched ® Corner Pyle ® Andy Griffith © Bonanza O Mickey Mouse CD World of Animals © Family Affair ® Movie 5:00 ® Bonanza O CD FBI ®) Truth or Consequences Lucy Ironside Mister Rogers Neighborhood 5:30 © Get Smart m To Tell the Truth 0 Andy Griffith 9 Electric Company (!) Dumb replies best for Elvis contest 1:000.®®®! Special Midnight By J.P. Rool Women by the dozens are now wearing Elvis Presley scarves. The singer wore them just .long enough to let them touch his skin, then he wiped a little sweat on them and passed them out. Anybody lucky enough to be sitting in the first few rowsJiear the stage stood an excellent chance of being given one. The scarves are okay souveniers, I guess, but I'm here to offer something better. With the kind permission of Bill Ellis of the Daniel Boone Hotel where Presley stayed while in Charleston, I entered the presidential penthouse suite last Sunday and chose some souveniers to be offered here now. These are prime items--things Presley touched, not knowning anyone else would get to them. Ellis offered me my choice to be given away with compliments of the Daniel Boone. Everyone who dealt with the man while he was here says Presley is the most sincere, friendly, humble man you can imagine. Effie March, Presley's maid at the Boone, says he is "justterrifically nice." Melda Williams, hotel desk clerk, says he is "beautiful, simply a beautiful person," and Ellis says he is astounded that such a popular and extremely powerful man can be so common. "It's incredible that a man in his position can be so nice," Ellis says. And since Presley is so nice, I'm sure he wouldn't mind my sharing these things with you. Here's what I've got to offer you: k washcloth taken from a bucket of water in the bedroom. Presley, they say, sweats profusely. He likes his room kept cold and he uses wet washcloths to wipe his forehead. This one was used Saturday, the singer's last day in town. *A milk glass from his last supper at the hotel. He drank milk. His very lip print is upon the rim of the glass. Some dried milk remains. Mel Kahn, the hotel's food and beverage director, said the Presley party drank so much milk the hotel started sending it up in half-gallon cartons. This glass came from the dining room table. *A Gideon Bible from the top of the TV in the bedroom. It was Ef fie March, who noticed the Bible had been moved. "We always put it on the dresser or the stand beside the bed," she said, "but somebody moved it.'' Kahn suggested I take it. "Listen," he said, "Lots of people might want that." One of you can have it. *Five towels from'the bathroom. One was pictured with Kahn in a photograph in The Charleston Ga- '/2s
