7T MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 1964 THE OTTAWA JOURNAL 13 XT JUNIOR FOOTBALL OPEN Trojans Down Sooners 13-8 TMR Lions Topple Eastview Ground power proved the deciding factor in the opening of (he Interprnvincial Junior Football League Sunday. With a .strong running game Ottawa Trojani handed the defending champions, Ottawa Sooner, their first defeat in league play time 1962 with 13-8 victory in one opener at Brantwood. EASTVIEW LOSES Irt the other game Town of Mount Royal Lions powered their way to & 19 8 win ovet Eastview in an :oierlocir.j contest at Eaitview. The power running o( fullback Dan Dever and half Dave Litle led Trojani to an overland total of 220 yards. Dever rolled up 106 with 16 carries while Litle charged for 71 jn 12 trips. Each i picked up a touchdown to 't finish off marches and Bob Turner converted one of them TO account for he Trojan scoring. . , ' Sooner tried the air route with 'quarterback Bob Mc-J' Carthy pitching for 159 yards through the air with 'Ii2 com-I pletions in 23 tosses. But Trojani held Sooners' ground 1 game to 78 yards and Sooners managed only one scoring drive. McCarthy finished t h t one off from close in. BALANCED ATTACK Over at .Eastview Town of Mount Royal put together a well-balanced attack to send Eastview down to defeat, - Dan Palov scored two ma-' Jors for the Montrealers and Bill" Marchjtello the other.
