4C Decorating With Sheets Is Budget-Saving Idea Bed, Windows, Vanity All Done in Colorful Bed Linens Blessed Is the Child Who Gets a Big Room in an Old House Especially If the Carpet's Fluffy and the Furnishings Comfortable 12 Fur Designers Combine ' ,; Talents for Single Show Ounbor,WV 25064 959 Dunbgr Village Plaza '. By Angela Taylor ; .\.y. Time* News Service NEW YORK - Summer heat hasn't discouraged the furriers who are showing their fall collections. Ben Thylan paraded yet another collection at the Plaza that .made one yearn for a chilly November. The Thylan arrangement is a sort of minicongloinerate of 12 furriers and designers who sell their wares in the Thylan showrooms at 32 East 57th Street. The combination of talent makes for interesting variety. There are for instance, the befurred raincoats Alice Ra.iner designs. Mrs. Rainer's contributions differ from the usual ^fur-lined raincoats design. Instead of an ^entire fur lining, she edges a quilted poplin lining with fur and then puts a siik poplin raincoat over it. Since the fur runs from the collar to the hem, the effect is of z coat entirely fur- lined. The technique makes for less bulk and height, plus the practicality of being able to wear the parts separately. « » · ANOTHER HOUSE specialty is the chif : fon evening scarf that Irene Spierer rims with fluffy fur. It's particularly pretty in beige edged with labrador fur, and also comes in taupe chiffon and Russian sable. The Thylan designers love greatcoats in long-haired pelts. A newcomer to this group is made of Russian raccoon. The Russian animal, probably because of the colder winters, has much longer, fluffier fur than its American cousin, and its color is golden rather than the usual brownish gray. Other new pelts include a natural apricot-colored nutria and a gray Southwest African lamb with a pearly sheen. Of course, there was mink: a narrow ranch mink coat with big patch pockets, a pair of smock coats with deep yokes, one in Samink (the new long-haired variety;, another of ranch mink worked hair up. The star of the collection was a Russian sable coat tagged at $60,000. which Thy- ian's wife, Bernice : said was already sold. The purchaser had asked for anonymity, but Mrs. Thylan dropped a hint. It would at the royal court of one of the important oil-producing countries, she confided. A Sunny Room for the Sunshine in Your Life Perfect Setting for the Young Set Who Gets Tucked in Small Quarters Designer'* Touch Little Ones Like Light, Color By Connie Shearer Every little Katie and Kim, and Jeffrey and Jim loves to have his or her room.dec- orated. They like light and color and they like to have certain places for all their toys and paraphernalia. . And you will find that a child is more interested in keeping his room in order when the room is attractive. Often the youngest child gets tucked away in the tiniest corner of the house. But that's no reason why he can't have an extra large portion of brightness and wmimsical decorative cheer. * * » FOR A LITLE room which may be tucked away under the eaves of an older house or the little room that was just added on because there was a little space left, all-over papered walls could be just the answer. If the little one is a girl you might use painted Victorian wicker furniture, splash the walls and ceiling with colorful bouquets in pink, blue and marigold and then hang bright pink and white curtains at the windows. The carpeting, of course, must be deep, soft shaggy plush and, how does a combination" of cranberry, pink and red sound for the floor? A carpet-covered raised platform will see lots of use. Children love to climb and burrow and lucky is he who has a stage, a playhouse, a magic country or a planet in his own room. * * * IF YOU'RE doing the same room for a little lad, why not change the style of the furniture to old bentwood? Paint it white and do the walls in plaids and stripes in blue, gold and green on white. Then add carpeting in shades of green to resemble an Astroturf football field. A colorful and inexpensive way to do a child's room, or any room, is with sheets. Remember that you can get twin sheets for the child's bed and then buy the same design in king size to make draperies. .A vanity skirt can be made by turning the raw edge under gathering the fabric to fit the table and attach with thumb tacks. Then make a band from the hemmed end of a sheet to cover the tacks. This can be achieved with double-face tape. to relax -- a nice fluffy carpet, color all around -- interesting wallhangings and something to teach .responsibility _ a growing plant. FOR AN ADDED and attractive touch, cover the mirror frame with matching fabric. Cut leftover sheet in strips. You may sew the short ones together. Then simply wrap the frame until it's covered. As you wrap, turn the raw edges under and when you're finished it will have the look of shirred fabric on the frame. Ideally, a child should have a place to sit and work -- a table with chairs, a place Denise's Boutique Beauty Salon 5108MacCorklellve.,$.E.
