9C -July By Couie Skearer There are so many things to talk about in home furnishings these days. We've said it once and we repeat -never have people been so interested in the way their homes look. How often, when a crowd gathers, does the conversation turn to interior design! And speaking of furnishings, let's talk a little bit about the part of the home you see as soon as the front door opens -- the foyer. * * * THE OLD saying "first impressions count" goes for houses as well as people. So, when you redecorate your home, put your best foot forward in the place people see first -- the foyer. Many older homes have entrance halls or foyers separated from the living room. Owners of newer homes without a separate foyer sometimes use tall furnishings like shelves and bookcases to create a small foyer off the living room. In either case, the foyer should be carefully decorated, as is the one in the photograph. The stacked storage modules effectively separate the entry from the living room proper. The European ceramic tile-patterned floor is a sharp contrast to the thick solid-color carpeting in the living room. * * * AND SPEAKING of storage modules naturally leads to kitchen cabinets. Uncommon cabinet arrangements provide some easy answers to several common storage problems in the kitchen.
