_7G--July 23, 1972 Sunday Gazette-Mail --Charleston, West Virtinl* __ Brides Making Wedding Cakes? White Symbolizes Joy, Ceremony True--It s Part of New Life Style More bndes-to-be will bake the calces served at their wedding receptions in the 70s It is all part of a life style that places new emphasis on personal creativity. This prediction from Corning Glass Works parallels a trend that shows more brides-to-be are making their own wedding dresses. Pattern makers say the number of ·garments sewn at home has risen steadily in the past five years. Surveys find that "it's a challenge to make a very special dress" and it's fun to say "see what I did myself." The do-it-yourself idea has merit for the girl wishing to add a personal touch to her wedding festivities. It also offers an economy for the budget wedding. . Baking one's wedding cake is easy if you have the proper heat-resistant glass oblong baking dishes. Although the five-tiered cake described here is ideal for a wedding reception, it is appropriate for any special occasion: gradua- t i o n , a n n i v e r s a r y o r engagement. The glass baking dishes do not have to be stored until the next special occasion. They can be used for roasting a turkey, baking bar cookies, or lasagna. To make the cake you need three packages of cake mix EASY TO MAKE WEDDING CAKE Serves About 120 Persons (two-layer s i z e ) , t h r e e packages of frosting mix, three oblong baking dishes (10x6, ll%x7V2 and 13V4x8%), and cardboard cut the size of four of the layers (7x3, 8%x- 4'/2, 10x6 and Il%x7%), the Corning Glass test kitchen says. * + » THE CAKES can be baked two days in advance. Prepare second package of c a k e m i x a n d r e p e a t procedure, making second layer of the same size. Prepare third package of cake mix and pour to equal depths in two remaining Pyrex baking dishes. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until done. Cool 10 minutes and remove to cake rack. On the day before the event, cover each piece of cardboard with foil so that they may be Gift For Married Years Past Makes Each Year Celebration The gift that says what words cannot but that time has already remarked upon: that is the anniversary gift. It's the perfect time to fill in what's missing from a couple's silver service, so gift them extravagantly with either silver flatware or holloware. When the 30th anniversary is upon them, a couple usually find themselves alone again and able to do some of the things they have long talked about and wished to do. Diamond jewelry for their personal pleasure is the gift for this anniversary. Jade spotlights 35 years of marriage as the gift for so honorable an achievement. Much prized in the Orient, this remarkable gem has been worked countless numbers of ways that make especially beautiful anniversary gifts to celebrate a 35 year young marriage. The golden opportunity to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of 50 years of marriage is not accorded to many.
