5A --June 5, 197( * Sundav Gazelle-Mail · -Cnarleston '.Vest Virginia Lebanese Developments Include Kissinger Denial Thi' -Issucii Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said Saturday, on the eve of his trip to Latin America, the U.S. did not give tacit approval to Syrian military intervention in Lebanon's civil war. Meanwhile Christian militia leaders endorsed the intervention. The leaders endorsed Syria's military intervention while new protests were voiced by leftist Moslems and their Palestinian allies. The Christian war chiefs, previously reserved about part of the country being occupied by Syria, met with President-elect Elias Sar'kis and President Suleiman Franjieh to decide on a stand. "It is only natural to encourage anything that leads or contributes to ending the fighting." they said in a statement afterward. "It is imperative that the efforts of Syria under President Hafez Assad in this direction should be appreciated. * KISSINGER, said Saturday in N.Y. that the United States did not gram approval to the Syrian military intervention and "We were not consulted about the latest ated PreM military move . . . and we have consistently warned against foreign intervention as involving a significant risk of escalation." he told newsmen after a 1' s-hour meeting with U.N. Secretary-General Kurt Wai- dheim. But he did not call for the withdrawal of the Syrian troops, saying the Lebanese situation is delicate and the United States is trying to act as an "honest broker" to bring about a solution. "We can only urge the most rapid political solution because once there is an established central government by the two communities (Christian and Moslem) in Lebanon, it can call for the withdrawal of outside forces." Kissinger added. Kissinger described his talks with Wai- dheim as "extremely useful." »· BESIDES LEBANON, the talks covered the Middle East. Cyprus, southern Africa and Latin America. $%!#%-$% 1 Xv Could Cost | You $200 | BARNSTABLE, Mass.
