Informed sources said that un til the unauthorized postal cover incident became public knowl edge earlier this month, the Apollo 15 crew members, all Air Force officers, were favored to receive the Gen. Thomas D White U. S. Air Force Space Trophy. The trophy, a bronze male figure hurling a Saturn rockel into space with his right hand and holding a reentry vehicle in his left, is awarded annually fcr the most outstanding contribution to the nation's progress in aerospace. It was established in 1961 by Dr. Thomas W. McKnew, chairman of the board of trustees of the National Geographic Society. The society and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration first were notified that the Apollo 15 crew was the Air Force choice for the award. Later notice was sent that the nomination had been withdrawn. i ^ v ^ r i i » i A. V J i V l * * Jlg,lll- CJ, »» C McKnew, asked about the re- David C.
