The team also likes the full court press, but the coach only uses it when the team is behind. Which isn't often. The Tigers are undefeated and recently won the Gassaway Little League Championship. One of the main reasons for t h e B r a x t o n C o u n t y team's success is the coach. And when the coach gives an order, the fellows say "Yes ma'am." Virginia Chapman has been sixth grade teacher and principal at Frametown Elem e n t a r y School f o r t w o years. This year she added the job of basketball coach to her list. "There was a disagreement with the coach they had, so they asked me to t a k e i t , " s h e e x p l a i n s . ' Some lady wasn't tgo keen on it and said 'Well, you c a n ' t go in the dressing rooms." I said 'Oh yes I can.' So I took over as coach and we won all our games this year." The Clay County native, herself the mother of two grown boys, has nothing but praise for her spirited team. She says of her 15 fifth and sixth graders: "The kids are easily taught. When we started practice, the boys already knew the fundamentals. One of them, Chris Shuman, really is something special. I think he has the makings of a real ballplayer. "He fancies himself a y o u n g J e r r y West, even down to wearing number 44. I asked him if we have to retire his jersey when he goes to secondary school next fall." Mav If). 197-1.
