Anne Klein Look Alive By Bernadine Morris (C) 1974 New York Times NEW YORK -. "You just went out and came back a star," Kay Thompson, the entertainer, told her. Donna Karan, clutching a bunch of white roses and a furry bunny someone had handed her for her infant daughter, wept. She had just proved the other day that the Anne Klein fashion spirit lives. Miss Klein, who had helped spur the worldwide renaissance of sports clothes, died two months ago. Mrs. Karan, 25, had come to work for her after finishing two years at the parsons school of design, almost six years ago. Four years later she was named co- designer. This was the first collection she had done completely on her own. All the Anne Klein trademarks are there, the superb hard-edged tailoring, the sophisticated color sense, the interplay of separate jackets, skirts or pants, sweaters and shirts. Now the jackets and coats are looser, the skirts longer and flaring, the sweaters pulled down below the hips. The new colors are mainly wine reds and greens, plus an extended black sequence. And there a r e m a n y e v e n i n g clothes, some loose and glittery, a few clingy. "It's a paralyzing collection -- I've got goosebumps," said John Schumacher, the president of I. Magnin, congratulating the young designer. The consensus was that it was a collection Miss Klein herself would have been happy to endorse. "Somewhere, she's having good vibes," a friend remarked. "I love the clothes," said Mrs. Karan, who obviously is equipped to keep the Anne Klein flag flying. Wiping another tear, she said, "I'm learning to cry just like my daughter." ,,.^i^i_ g2S£-*» · · TM -- TM" --l " DRlili SAVE 15 on KINGSFORD BRIQUETS Flem Campbell of Kwik-Shop Grocery, 37th and MacCorkle Ave., Kanawha City is telling customer, Mrs. Sue McCarty that Kingsford Charcoal Briquets which she is purchasing for a cook-out, starts easier and cooks faster and they are a West Virginia product.
