(AP) Beckley amassed 90Vz points and qualified 12 individuals and 5 relay teams for next week's state track meet in winning the Region 5. Class AAA track meet here Saturday. Bluefield placed second with SO 1 -! points followed by Princeton with 33 : /2 points. Beckley's Joe Saunders was the outs'tanding i n d i v i d u a l performer. He collected 12 Jefferson County Wins Region Two FAIRMONT, W. Va. (AP) -- Jefferson County swept the Class AAA Region 2 track meet here Saturday, qualifying 11 athletes for the state meet and garnering 60 points. Morgantown, wityi seven qualifiers, was second with 39 points, followed by Elkins, 36Vz, Martinsburg 36. Fairmont East 27Va, Lewis 23. Clarksburg Liberty 14, West Fairmont 14, Keyser 10, Philip-Barbour 8, Braxton 8, Grafton 5, Washington Irving 4, Bridgeport 3. Jim Redman of Keyser set a meet record in the two-mile run, posting a time of 10:02.75. The old mark was 10:14. The pole vault mark for the meet also toppled with Randy White of Lewis County reaching a height of 12-10, one inch above the former record. Liberty runner John Davis run the mile in 4:27.7, not good enough for a meet record but the best time in the state this vear. points including first place honors in the shot put and discus events. Bluefield's Can- Bane was close behind wth 11V 2 points including first place in the 100- Hampshire County Dominates Region MARTINSBURG. W.Va. ( A P ) -- Hampshire County dominated the Region 5 Class AA track meet Saturday as its r u n n e r s m a r k e d up 76Vz points. Berkeley Springs was second with 66, followed by Ridgeley at 45Vz, Hedgesville 45, Fort Ashby 25, Musselman at 14 and Petersburg had 13. Four meet records fell in the competition, with Fort Ashby's Bob Leatherman taking two of them himself. He upset the twoyear-old shot put mark of 48-9 Vz with a distance of 49-9 Vz, and toppled the five- year old discus record of 138-5 with a throw of 150-1. Berkeley Spring's two-mile relay team of Mike Bergen, David Unger, Lewis Perrill and David Morgan established a new mark at 8:50.8. The former record, set in 1971, was a time of 8:57.6. Mac Watts of Hampshire shaved four-tenths of a second off the high hurdles mark set in 1968 by posting a time of 15.1 seconds. Watts also tied the 1964 record in the 100-yard dash with a time of 10.3 seconds, and Berkeley Springs' Jimmy Miller equaled the 1969 record in the 440-yard dash with a time of 52.9 seconds. yard dash and second place in the 220-yard dash.
