The remainder of the 98th annual outdoor track and field championships will be held May 24 and 25 at the University of Pittsburgh. The decathlon is a 10-event championship run over a period of two days. On Wednesday, the championship begins at noon with the 100-meter dash. The long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400-meter run follow. The second day consists of the 110 meter hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, the javelin, and the 1500 meter run. Athletes competing in the events receive points for every event and the athlete with the highest point total after ten events is declared the champion. "This is a new eveltt for our area," says Romanoski, "and the public will have the opportunity to view some superb athletes in action. The decath- lon athletes have to work extremely hard to perfect each of the 10 events. "This championship is a scientific measure of the athlete's all-around ability."
