LOCALREGIONAL The Manhattan Mercury A2 Monday, April 15, 1996 City, County agree on disaster authority Hansen, Otto win KSU presidency working on an agreement that would make the Riley County Emergency Management office, headed by Pat Collins, responsible for the portion of Manhattan located in Pottawatomie County during emergency situations. This area includes the Eastside Business District and the Manhattan Industrial Park. The discussion was prompted by the flood of 1993, when there was some confusion over which local governmental agency was running emergency operations in the area. The interlocal agreement took effect today. "This means you don't, have to wonder who is in charge," said County Commissioner Karen McCulloh, who represented Riley County in the discussions.

"When you have a life and death emergency, you don't want to have to wonder who to get in contact with." Chris Hansen, Goodland, unior ia nuclear engineering, has been elected 1996-97 student body president of Kansas State University. Hansen, along with vice presidential running mate Aaron Otto, 3401 Gary Manhattan, junior in political science and general management, won 57 percent of the votes cast in the four-team race. Balloting took place April 8 and 10. Hansen and Otto will be sworn in Thursday and will serve until spring 1937. Hansen was recently selected as a member of Blue Key, the senior leadership honorary, 1SG8-97.

He will serve as the organization's scholarship director. Hansen is a member of ThetaXi fraternity, where he has served as president and grand lodge director. He also is a member of American Nuclear Society, Chimes junior honorary, Student Alumni Board, Men's Glee Club and Habitat for Humanity. A Seaton Engineering Scholar and Nuclear Training Institute Scholar, Hansen is an engineering honors program student. Hansen is a 1393 graduate of Goodland High School.

He is the son of Wallace and Lana Hansen of Goodland.
