1944 Stt. Catfwnne a 9334556. There's a handsome man in his 20s posing as a lSyear-old virgin on television tonight -and it's not on 60 Minutes. James Van Der Beek stars as Dawson Leery in Dawson's Creek. The pilot episode of the series will be on Global in a choice spot, right after The Files.

Then Dawson's Creek moves into its regular time slot, tomorrow at 8 p.m. Kevin Williamson, whose movie credits include Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, created Dawson Creek for the upstart WB network in the US. Drawing on his own experience of growing up in South port, a coastal town in North Carolina, Williamson has set his coming-of age TV series in Cape-side, a fictional town on the Atlantic coast of Massachusetts. 861-4111. WORLD Les Vrab Tzigane. Cafe Sarajevo, 2080 Clark St 284-5629. some nicely atmospheric cinematography Capeside is an eye-pleasing setting for the adolescent agonies of four high-school students: Leery, his platonic pal Josephine THEATRE late 1960s. The eternal boulevard ier and the tycoon to-be (then doing an MA at McGill) hit it off and used to hoist a few-at the Bistro on Mountain St when Black was studying and writing in Quebec.

Fast forward to the 1980s. Black has gained control of Argus Corporation, the diverse holdings of which include Standard Broadcasting, which owns CJAD. Auf der Maur is an editorialist on CJAD. He hears a disquieting rumour budget cuts are coming at the station, and freelancers are particularly vulnerable. What to do? Auf der Maur phones the CJAD switchboard, disguises his voice and asks for himself.

He tells the operator "This is Conrad Black, have Nick phone me when he gets in." The message is posted on the bulletin board. The fact that Nick is getting calls from an old friend does not escape the notice of CJAD management The execs, a nervous bunch at the best of times, contemplate the wisdom of laying off an editorialist whose wide circle of friends includes the man who owns the radio station. "If I fire Nick," the bean-counter reasons, "he'll call his pal Conrad Black. And then I'll be fired." The upshot was that Nick Auf der Maur, crusading (and damn clever) CJAD editorialist, somehow escaped the ravages of cost-cutting. The Last Boulevardier was special.

Attention teenage girls: tomorrow night's TV schedule is, like, so cool. At 8 p.m. on CBC (which, as any teen will tell you, "totally sucks" most nights of the week), there's a documentary on Prince William and Prince Harry And that's just the beginning. OK, take a deep breath: Leo is on Letter-man. Leonardo DiCaprio visits the Late Show, WCAX-3 at 11:35.

All together now: Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! Joey" Potter (Katie Holmes), his sidekick Pacey Witter (Canadian Joshua Jackson, who's acted in the Mighty Ducks movies) and the new girl in town, Jennifer Lindley MIKE BOONE TV RADIO characters spend a lot more time talking about It than doing it Desperate to lose his virginity Pacey reads Cosmopolitan for dating tips. When Dawson teases him about it Pacey replies: "I have three menstrually diverse sisters Cosmo is my saviour." Good line and it typifies the quality of dialogue on Dawson's Creek. This is very good TV a nice, late-season treat from Global Not the least of Dawson's Creek's delights is its music. Paula Cole sings the theme song, I Don't Want to Wait and the soundtrack includes snippets from Savage Garden, Ron Sex-smith, the Ben Folds Five, REM, Sarah McLachlan, Billie Myers, Jann Arden, The Pretenders and many bands and singers whose music is more familiar to my daughter than to me. The 8 p.m.

slot on Mondays is not ideal for 60-minute dramas, but Dawson's Creek provides a valuable alternative to Cosby and Suddenly Susan. Check out the series tonight, and watch it again tomorrow. Dawson 's Creek makes its debut tonight at 10 on CKMI-46. The new series moves into its regular time slot tomorrow at 8p.m. A great Nick Auf der Maur story (and it might even be true): Through their mutual friend, Brian Stewart, Nick had met Conrad Black during the ENGLISH Mocshplat featuring comedians and downs, 2 and 8 p.m.

The casting may be a stretch, but Dawson's Creek needed actors who could handle the clever dialogue and emotional range that Williamson has cooked up for them. They shared a love of dance, a similar height and certain blond look. But they couldn't communicate in words. They made a dance about budding friendship anyway Double MeaningA Double Sens is a story of encounter. Not too short, not too long, full of ticklish humour and keep-forever images of two dissimilars, it is a delight Fresh, cute and very funny, they announce themselves with dual suitcases. Once the cases are open and the parallel dance begins, we see their differences.

Green is vivacious, casual and insistent as she tosses her clothing about. Digging into her valise, Porte seems precise and determined. But as soon as she doffs her proper little black dress for a flowered mini slip, she erupts in fast forward chattering and wiggling that undermines Green's straightforward attempt at introduction. Like a flea, Porte is everywhere, burbling in lightning French as the Texan appeals to the audience for translation. Back and forth they go English to French, sober persistence to hilarious prancing.

Green is the straight man to Porte's frolicking quips. In separate solos, Green gives three short pieces under the heading Songs of Unrest She dances a range of pure movement from crisp and small to wide and choppy with a tough, fast edginess. Green, who works in New York, has that clean, raw angularity that styles her instantly as American. Equally slick technically, Porte's 7 Gouttes et des Pous-sieres comes from a more intellectual direction by building a dance of deconstructed words. Using words as inspiration, she moves with impeccable precision and clarity, embroidering with such complexity and speed that the eye cannot take in all her movements.

While Porte's outright humour was new in Double Meaning, subtle wit Is part of Goutes. Words flash onscreen and melt as she undulates arms and hands like a Siamese dancer beneath falling letters. Neat gestures pick up the pace and shoulder rotations flash. Porte's dancing is about superb control and unlimited imagination. She puts the puzzle together by rolling credits on the video screen.

It's fun. It's silly. It makes me want to see more of this clever young artist Dominique Porte and Allyson Green perform at 7:30 tonight at Tangente, 840 Cherrier. Tickets cost $15 and $12. Call 525-1500.
