lute men are deprived of every right but that of life, and that itself is al the caprice of irresponsible juries. Liberty there is a privilege to be reineuibereil, never to be enjoyed. Six persons, in accordance with the of Delaware, were pilloried and lashed in the town of Wilmington, in that State, on the 23d ult. The total numbor of cuts nine at a stroke administered to the culprits, was 1,260. Republicans, we believe, count on carrying Delaware at the next election.

should prove a good State for Radicalism. As it -was possible to flnd parties ready and willing to strew flowers over grave of the all-time infamous Nero, a mark of respect, so are there now those to be found who are busy in eulo- gi.ing the disgraced Edwin M. Stan- on as a great and good man. Modern Radicals do not propose to be outdone the ancients in couiendation of in- famous deeds. Di-rino the last presidential cam paign the lladicals persistently heaped abuse upon General McClelland because did not resign his position in the army upon receiving the nomination for the Fresideucy.

Con sistency on the part of these Radicals should impel them to demand the same Chant now. McClellan resigned his position on the day of election and before the result was announced. Is there probability Grant will do the Bame not the slightest. He has never been known to refuse anything offered to him, from a full glass of whisky down the "empty" nomination at Chicago, to yield anything once in his pos- session. There is neither any likelihood his resiguing, nor of Radicals ask- him to do so.

ItAUK Al. XKK A'fTJTI KNT OF VINNIK ickaki. 1 An exciting debate took placo in Con- gress on the 38th and one giving additional evidence of the low degraded wun aies ot onara at 51 1 60- JZ The first miiiibcr of "Th Campaiqs Commercial," will be issued from this office to-day. Although scarcely a month has elapsed since the first announcement was made of our intention to publish such a paper, orders have been pouring, in upon us for it far in excess of our most sanguine expectations. Flatteringly large as is our issue this morning, we have yet assurances from the various counties of the State that it will yet be largely increased.

We veuture the assertion that no paper ever published in Kansas ever had, or that no cotemporary paper will have, a circulation equal to that of the Cam paign Commercial. It is the intention of the publishers to use this paper solely in the tlissemina- tion of Democratic principles and political news generally. Hence, furnishing it as we do at an exceedingly low rate we ask of all Democrats, no matter where located, no matter whether of "law or high tlegrce," to aid us in extending its circulation. The issues in the coining compaign are of the most vital importance, and it will well become all to seek as far as possible to thoroughly understand them. It is not necessary for us to recount them here suffice it to say they are of such a char acter as should stir the blooil in every man who loves his country aud ilesires its prosperity.

We call upon all Democrats also not only to aid us in the circulation of the various editions of the Commercial, but to organize themselves into clubs in all the towns, townships, of the State. In addition to circulating Democratic papers and documents, let us have a thorough organization. -et the name of every voter be taken tlowu, and his political status recortled. Let every precinct be thoroughly canvassed, the doubtful induceil to join the Democracy if possible, and every honorable nieaus used to secure a victory such as all good men desire. Iadipal-ism has held high carnival too long already.

Extravagance and corruption iollow in every footstep ot its "pro gress," while the most gricviously burdensome of taxes are being levied. To correct these evils to restore economy jn the conduct of public affairs, to re move the burtlens imposed on the nation by the liadical party, to equalize tax tion, to restore to the nation all that formerly made it the freest anil happi- est thai the sun ever shone upon, and to inaugurate a truly liberal policy in national affairs to all these will tin Campaign Commercial be especially iledicaied Price of the Campaign Commerc i al. to be published till after the l'resideu- tial election, fifty cents a copy. aadeni(aad at No. 8s Data war Paris' bretara, traaa iy WA J' illl inc A IP et C. A wf of St. Louis, May 30. The Washington special to the Evening Dispatch ays me announcement or the postpouemen of the trial of Jeff Davis caused but little surprise, as it has been known for some days that Chief Justice Chase has desired such postponement.

The only reason for objecting to proceed with the trial; at the present time is to be his desire to see what will be done at the National Democratic Convention at New York, July 4th. It is stated here that presiding at the trial of Jeff Davis immediately preceediug this convention might p'rove detrimental to whatever chances he Chief Justice may have, of obtaining the Democratic nomination there for the Presidency, and hence he advocated a further postponement. 1 President Johnson this morning for the first time in many months visited tbe-War Department. called at the White House at 11 o'clock- Mr. Johnson; advanced upon the War Office, accompanied by Ad Interim.

Thomas was in full in citizen's dress, followed by a couple of staff officers. They did not stop in the executive office where Gen. Pelouse and Gen. Howard were sitting, but proceeded at once to the inner office, vacant since the withdrawal of Stanton. is understood that the President's action is in pursuance of his theory that Thomas has been the legal Secretary of War, ami that therefore he must turn over the office to Scholiphl.

Mr. Johnson looked in wonderfully grand spirits and as if he had achieved a victory. There was an interesting mpptinor on Change to-day, at noon, hear what the delegation from Mobile had to say about the reopeninglof Bayou Mauchac. Mr. Stewart, of a lengthy speech, setting forth the practicability me project, ana aetauing many of its advantages, claiming that direct water communication with Mobile har bor, which is the best and safest on the gulf, would Inure vastly to the.

WkM mu, at a Priaiwav TtakatotTna i a th beneficial, in many respects, to the State at large WHO SilTPPUKT I.KANT AND FA X. Ed. Commercial I see in the Ere- niug Bulletin, of the 30th an arti cle with the above caption, taken from the Clevclaml Leader, which enumer ates eleven classes of meii who will support Grant ami Colfax The Leader has not mentioned half the' classes of men that will vote for Grant and Colfax. Allow me to point -out a great many other hosts of people that will vote for Grant and Colfax Pretty much all the negroes of the Southern States will vote for Grant and Colfax. Every man that thinks a white man as good as a negro, "if the while man behaves himself," will vote for Grant and Colfax.

Show me a man that thinks the widows ami orphans of 300,000 soldiers who fell in defence of the stars and stripes in the late rebellion must continue for all time to come to pay eight dollars per sack for flour, and all other necessaries of life in proportion, to en able the Government to pay the rich bondholder his interest in gold, and I will show you a man that will vote for Gaant and Colfax. Show me a man that thinks the above named widows and orphans of the 000 men who fell in defence of their country, aiul :00,000 other men who have beeu wounded and disabled for life, and all the laboring classes of men should pay all the taxes necessary to run the Government ami free the rich bondhohier from taxes, and I will show you a man that will vote for Grant and Colfax. Show me a man that is in favor of paying the poor laboring men of the country greenbacks at 40 per cent, ilis-count, ami the rich bondholder gold that is not to be taxed, and 1 will show you a man that will vote for Grant and Colfax. Show me a man that is in favor of taxing the poorer classes of men in the North fifty millions of dollars annually feed, clothe, and educate the lazy negroes of the South, who are as able work for their living as the poor while men of the North, and I will show you a man that will vote for Grant and Colfax.
