The music, as heard on his excellent CD Pamlentam (I Remember), is part Jewish klezmer. part Soviet partisan, with some gypsy a flavouring of Qu6b6cols spunk, a bit of blues, and plenty of Slavic yearning. Most songs are in Polish, but the second set Saturday night will feature Hebrew songs.

A self taught musician. Kunigis says his band is the product of love and memory, the seeds planted by his Polish Catholic mother and Jewish war-hero father. Saturday, Dec. 5 al gigs this weekend. It's just funny to think -he's doing the Stones and us." And you can be sure mat's just the tip of the Bran-berg in terms of what awaits Di Salvio and friends. Ex-Capitol bigwig Gary Gersh the man who signed Bran Van while holding off the likes of Russell Simmons and Madonna will be dropping in for this weekend's gigs. Other power moves and projects all within the realm of music are alluded to in hushed tones.

In between time, the kids continue to hold their own. "We make sure the gossip and rumours don't spread into our little shrine of relationships and friendships," Di Salvio says. "To me, the most interesting point is still the human angle we're nine people from all different races, colours and perspectives who've stuck it through and made it to the finish. It's a great feeling. We're all happy, psyched and growing.

"The beauty is that there will be a next time BRAN VAN Continued from Page D16 That's something they've been working on since they first played a sold-out Foufounes Electriques for the '97 Montreal International Jazz Festival Last January showed us an amped but still awkward Bran Van as it stormed a sold-out Spectrum. The band finally hit its groove this summer as it sailed through a symbiotic night with a sold-out Metropolis. And it ain't over. "Our tour manager Adey Wilson, who's worked with the Cure, Tricky and Morcheeba, has really taught us to think professionally about rock'n'roll," Di Salvio says. "He used to tour with Tears for Fears with a sound-man named Robbie McGraw, who now works exclusively with the Rolling Stones.

He had told Robbie that he wouldn't call him back until he had found something really good. So Robbie McGraw's coming in to do our Montre We've spent the last year and a half working the world, chasing release dates. Next time, there will be one world street date and we'll have all our videos shot beforehand." And that's not even the half of it. But for now, Di Salvio's got more pressing things on his mind: buying new sneakers, learning snowboarding this winter and, most important, checking out Kiss (Bran Van rented out a Molson Centre loge for the occasion on Tuesday night). t.

"They're the reason we're domg this, Di Salvio gushes. "There's Kiss and there's Nus-rat(FatehAliKhan)." And, somewhere in between, there's Bran Van3000. Bran Van 3000 performs at Metropolis tomorrow night and Sunday. Tomorrow 's show is sold out, but there are still some tickets left for Sun-day'sshow. Tickets cost $22.50, not including tax or service charge, and are on sale at the Spectrum boxofficeandAdmission outlets, (514) 790-1245.
