Page 8 Freeport (III.) Journal-Standard, Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1977 Stock Market Report NEW YORK (UPI) Blue chips were the pacesetters that drove prices higher today in fairly active trading of New York Stock Exchange issues. Bargain hunting following the market new year slide was the key factor in the upsurge that actually began late in Monday's session. Analysts said there was little news to account for the market's action. Shortly before noon EST, the Dow Jones industrial average, a 6.81-point winner Monday, was ahead 4.82 points to 943.15.

Prior to Monday, the blue-chip average had lost 73 points since 1. Breadth figures revealed investor uncertainty. Advances led declines, 688 to 442, among the 1,629 issues crossing the tape. But 499 issues remained unchanged. Volume during the first two hours of trading amounted to about shares, up from the 7,560,000 traded during the same period Monday, the slowest session of the year.

Among the blue-chips, International Paper was ahead Eastman Kodak and Procter Gamble a point each, Du Pont "4, Union Carbide and Allied Chemical American Telephone Telegraph, a major blue-chip issue, was the most active NYSElisted issue, up 2 Exxon followed, up General Motors was third, up GM gained Monday after sliding last week.
