CAROL MOULDER DALLAS Carol Moulder Dallas of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012. She was 66 when she died from complications arising from ovarian cancer. Carol was born on December 30, 1945 in Albany, Georgia to Glen H. Moulder, and Irene Durham Moulder. She received her Bachelor of Music in 1968 and her Master of Music in 1970, both from Florida State University.

Carol began her professional career at the First United Methodist Church in Thomaston, Georgia, as organist and Choir Master. It was while working there that she met and married her husband, Robert, in 1973, and had her first child, Aaron, in 1977. Following that, she worked as Choir Director and organist at Morrow Methodist Church in Morrow, Georgia. It was there that she had her second child, Clare, in 1980. She and her family then moved to Decatur where she worked as Choir Director and Organist at Cokesbury United Methodist Church.

Since 2001, Carol was the organist at Shallowford Presbyterian Church. Since 1990 she has been a member of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. In 201 1 she had the honor of being elected to the Board of Directors of this beloved organization. Many of her favorite times were spent enjoying the recitals and the personal relationships this group provided. While working in these churches, she also taught music at Gordon Junior College in Barnesville, Georgia, from 1975-1980, and she taught individual piano lessons at home and with the Suzuki Piano School from 1980-1990.

She was a music and movement teacher at Arbor Mont-essori School in Atlanta from 1985-1990 and, for the past five years, a preschool teacher at Hay-good Elementary School and The Day School in Atlanta. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her deep and abiding friendships, and her fierce loyalty to friends and family. Carol truly embodied the essence of non-judgment and she maintained an open heart policy in her friendships and with her life. Many close friends will remark that spiritual and philosophical conversations with Carol have brought about significant meaning and impactful change in their lives. She had an eloquent skill in turning simple conversations into momentous exchanges.

Not only could she conceive a gourmet meal at a moment's notice, her creativity spilled over into her teaching style and social endeavors. She was an inspiration to those who knew her love of and passion for music, and her zest for fun living and enjoying nature. The family's fondest memories are of the many spontaneous trips they took to spend time together in the outdoors. Carol's son and daughter feel blessed to have been as close as two siblings can be to their parents, and feel that their close relationship and friendship with their mother has had a profound positive impact on their lives. Carol and her husband shared a lifelong commitment that inspired and encouraged those who knew them.

Carol is survived by her husband of 39 years, Robert E. Dallas, III; her son, Aaron; her daughter, Clare; her brother, Stuart W. Moulder (all of Atlanta, GA); and her brother Glen H. Moulder (of Houston, TX). A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 1 at at Shallow-ford Presbyterian Church, 2375 Shallowford Road, Atlanta, GA 30345.

Express condolences at ajc.comobits By Paul Griffiths NewYorkTimes Hans Werner Henze, a prolific German composer, who came of age in the Nazi era and grew estranged from his country while gaining renown for richly imaginative operas and orchestral works, died Saturday in Dresden, Germany, where he was due to attend the premiere that evening of a ballet set to one of his scores.

He was 86. His longtime publisher, Schott Music, announced his death in a statement. Born into a European generation that wanted to make a fresh start at the end of World War II, Henze did so without wholly negating the past. He wanted a new music that would carry with it the emotion, the opulence and the lyricism of the Romantic era, even if those elements now had to be fought for. Separating himself from the avant-garde, he devoted himself to genres many of his colleagues regarded as outmoded: opera, song, the symphony.

By the early 1960s, Henze was an international figure with enthusiastic admirers in the U.S. His Fifth Symphony was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, which gave the work's premiere in 1963, with Leonard Bernstein conducting. More than 40 years later, the orchestra took part in commissioning one of Henze's last orchestral works, the tone poem "Sebastian Dreaming." He maintained relationships with other American institutions as well, including the Boston Symphony, which commissioned his Eighth Symphony (1992-93), and the Tan-glewood Music Festival, where he was composer-in-residence in 1988. His music expressed passionate but mixed feelings about his German heritage. His Nazi-era childhood alone would have produced, at the least, ambivalence about that heritage, but his homosexuality only further estranged him.

And he found little sympathy at home for his embrace of the Romantic past. He had to escape, and in 1953 he abruptly left for Italy. But he went on writing operas for theaters in Germany, where he was far more popular than any other composer of his time. That success brought him material comfort, and he came to give a fair physical impression of the kind of well-to-do burgher he might well have feared and despised in his youth: tight-suited, bald, energetic even when still. What failed to fit this image of stiff propriety was his unfailing charm, his sardonic sense of humor and his fondness for his many friends.

Hans Werner Henze was born on July 1, 1926, in Gutersloh, Westphalia, in northwest Germany. After army service in 1944 and 1945, he studied with Wolfgang Fortner at the Heidelberg Institute for Church Music and with the French composer Rene Leibowitz. He soon became acquainted with the modern music that had been banned by the Nazis notably Stravinsky and Berg, as well as jazz and gained the means to create a sprightly style that carried him through an abundant youthful output. By the time he was 25 he had written three symphonies, several ballets and his first full-length opera, "Boulevard Solitude" (1951).
