Bertha M. Layman Newnan, 69, of Smock, R. near Seafight Crossroads, died at her home. She was born in Saltlick Township Jan. 23, 1889, a daughter ot the late John and Mary Eurkholder Layman, and had resided at the Smock, R.

address for the past 32 years. are five sons, Samuel Russell for Ruppert, W. John E. and David K. of Evans Manor, Harry G.

of Champion, Ohio, and Arthur C. of Greensburg; one daughter. Mrs. Lawrence (Ruth) Holt of Searights; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Layman of UppT Middletown, and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Hoke of Waynesburg.

Her husband, William J. Newman, died in 1931. The body is at the Dearth funeral home in New Salem. HENRY PATTERSON Lane Patterson, .55, of Oliver No. 3, died at his home after an extended illness.

He was employed at Leisenring No. 2 mine, and was a member of the Bute local No. 6328, U. M. W.

A. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Evelyn Ashton Patterson; six daughters, including Mrs. William (Barbara) Quarrick a Mrs. William (Henrietta) Palya of Uniontown, and Mrs.

Walter (Dolores) a 11, Gloria and Cindy at home; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Clarence of Uniontown, and four sisters, Mrs. Edward (Daisy) Tishue, Mrs. Frank (Lucy) Oldland and Miss Mabel Patterson of Uniontown, and Mrs. Ethel Dodgson of West Leisenring. VENDEL ZEHEL Vendel A.

Zehel, 75, of California, a warden for Washington County, died Monday at his home. He had served two terms on the school board of East Pike Run Township. Surviving are four sons, including Wendel at home and Andrew E. of Uniontown, one daughter, one sister, 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. THOMAS VALERIO Thomas Valerio, 83, of Searights, died at Uniontown Hospital.

Surviving are his widow, Margaret; three daughters, including Mrs. Angelo (Jennie) Orelle of Brownsville and Mrs Frank (Mary) Potsklan of Killer; two sons, Paul of New Salem and Dominec of Searights, and 14 grandchildren. MRS. MAMIE Mrs. Mamie DeMary, 58, of New Alexandria, R.

D. 2, died in Latrobe Hospital. She was the widow of Anthony Deary. Surviving are seven children, Frank, Samuel and Alfred of New Alexandria, Leonard of South Greensburg, Mrs. Benny (Anna) Barra of Latrobe, Mrs.

Edward (Pauline) Norkin of Jeannette and Louis of Latrobe; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, Frank and Joseph Rubbert of New Alexandria and Samuel Rubbert of Cleveland, Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Josephine Mikolajczyk of New Alexandria, R. D. 2 (Frogtown), at 8:15 o'clock Friday morning. Requiem high mass will be celebrated at 9 o'clock Friday morning at St.

Bartholomew's R. C. Church at Crabtree. Interment will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery MRS. CORA MCCLELLAND Mrs.

Cora B. McClelland, 88, formerly of Greensburg, died in Wooster, Ohio. She was born in Greensburg, a daughter of the late William R. and Catherihe Shupe Barnhart, and her husband, the late J. Craig McClelland of New Alexandria, preceded her in death in 1951.

Surviving are five children, Dr. John B. McClelland, an exchange professor from the state college of agriculture at Ames, Iowa, now in the Philippines, William manager of the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company in Newark, N. Ruth, librarian at Wooster College, J. Craig Jr a Cleveland, Ohio, attorney and Mrs.

Catherine M. Wedge of Fort Wayne, Ind seven grandchildren and two sisters. ROYAL W. FERRY Royal W. Ferry, 47, of Youngstown, died at his home Surviving are his widow, Mrs.

Sophia Ferry, a son, Royal W. Jr of Derry; two stepsons, Joseph Rachocki of Cleveland, Ohio, and Francis Rachocki at home; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Bodner of Youngstown and Mrs Margaret Hamilton of McKees Rocks, two brothers, Jacob of Latrobe, R. D. 2, and Charles of Latrobe, R.

D. 4. CHARLES E. MURPHY Charles Edward Murphy, 69, of Brownsville died in Brownsville General Hospital. He leaves his widow, Mrs Bertha David Murphy; two stepsons; three step-grandchildren; one sister, and one brother, Harry Murphy of Star Junction.

MRS. FRANK KEARNS Mrs. Caroline (Carrie) Kearns, 67, of Brownsville, died la the Brownsville General Hospital. She was born Dec. 11, 1809, at Dunbar, a daughter of the late Charles Michael and Gilmor Brandt, and had resided in the Brownsville district for the past 47 Surviving are her husband, Frank Kearns and one sister, Mrs.

Robert (Maude) Downs of Tampa, Fla. Requiem high mass will be intoned at 9 a.m. Friday at St Peter's R. C. Church at Brownsville, and interment will be St.

Peter's Cemetery near Brownsville. FRANK W. WILLIS i Frank W. Willis, 64, of Jeannette, died in Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg after a lingering illness. He was born in Big Hifls, a son of the late Mr.

and Mrs. Samuel Willis. He was employed at the Caplan Iron and Steel Company in Jeannette and was a trustee of the Hopewell Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Viola at home and Mrs. Catherine L.

Robison of Niagra Falls, N. two sons, James W. of Jeannette and Frank W. Jr. at home; two grandchildren and six sisters.

His wife, Mrs. Mary Willis, died three months ago. Congressman to Go On Trial July IS On Fraud Charges SCRANTON, Pa. (UP) -Congressman William J. Green, Philadelphia Democratic city chairman, will go on trial here July 15 on charges of conspiring to de- Jfraud the federal government, it was announced Tuesday.

Oliver Dibble, assistant to the attorney general, made the announcement following a conference with Judge John W. Murphy, who will preside at the trial. Green had previously asked Murphy to step down because they were close friends and the judge, in his desire to prove his integrity, would be prejudiced against Green. Last Friday, Murphy refused to disqualify himself. A federal grand, jury indicted Green and six co-defendants after a 14-month investigation of alleged fraud in the construction of the 33-million dollar Tobyhanna Signal Corps Depot.

The six co-defendants are: Con- jressman Herbert J. McGlinchey of Philadelphia; John P. Gilboy, of Scranton, an engineering firm partner; John B. Kemmel, a Philadelphia painting contractor; Joseph Rochez, a partner in the firm of Rochez Brothers, East Pittsburgh; Frederick J. Raff, of Hartford, a plumbing contractor; and Robert W.

Brown, of Consolidated Construction Corp, Merchantville, N. J. In Retirement ALVIN RICHARDS Alvin Leroy Richards, 39, of Umontown, RD. 1 (Evans Manor) died suddenly. Surviving are his wjdow, Mrs.

Beatrice Chapman Richards; two sons, Leroy with the U. Air Force, stationed in New Hampshire, and Daniel Allan at home; five brothers, including George of Umontown, and one sister, Mrs. Daniel (Edna) Herbold of Uniontown. JOSEPH SIMENSKY Joseph Simensky, 33, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Grindstone, died at his home. He was veteran of World War two.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Simensky of Grindstone; five sisters, including Jacqueline of Grindstone and Mrs. Anna Costello of Belle Vernon, and two brothers, John of Brownsville and Pete Jr. of Grindstone.

A. C. HUNKER A C. Hunker, 71. of St.

Petersburg, a former resident of Greensburg, Jeannette and Pittsburgh, died at his home. He was Instructor Tests An examination for the position of first aid and mine rescue instructor for the Bituminous Division of Pennsylvania will be conducted at 1 m. Thursday, May 29 at the Greensburg Y. M. C.

A. Announce Birth. A son was born at 8 27 a m. Sunday at Uniontown Hospital to Mr. and Mrs.

Lloyd Hunter of Uledi. born in Hunker. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Hunker, and a son, Arthur. FRANK MOCZYDLOWSKY Frank Moczydlowsky, 76, of Crabtree, died at his home.

He was a member of the TJMWA and St. Joseph Society, No. 74, of Jeannette. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Wadisleva Moczydlowsky; five children, Carl of Crabtree, Amelia at home, Walter of Jeannette, Paul of Trauger and Joseph of Detroit, and nine grandchildren.

Robert H. Schneider of Connellsville, R. D. 1 (above), has reired as general shop foreman for West Penn Power Company, after more htan 40 years seivice. Employed at Connellsville power station in 1917, Schneider transferred to construction work in 1927 and in 1930 became truck driver in the company's department at Connellsville.

In 1940 he was promoted to lineman and in 1950 became utihtyman. His piomo- tion to general shop foreman came in 1950. He has one son, F. Robert Schneider of Scottdale, and two grandchildren He attends Scottdale Methodist Church. Woodworking and painting with water colors, oils and charcoal are his hobbies.

Among his work projects, "Dutch" (as he is known) recalls the boiler house at Connellsville station, which he helped to construct, and the storeroom and laboratory building at Connellsville and Greensburg terminal building. Davies Estate to Be Sold to Create Scholarship Fund WASHINGTON will' of the late Joseph E. Davies provided today that his palatial! Davies, former "U.S. ambassador to Russia, once offered the estate to the government as the' official residence of the vice pres- dent.

Davies, who died last -week at 1, left the remainder of his es- ate in trust funds, mostly for his hree daughters and their heirs. Edward C. Sfoner Enlists in Navy Edward C. Stoner, Navy recruiter in Connellsville, announced that George T. Herbert, son of Mrs. Virginia Herbert of 338 North Pittsburg has enlisted in the Navy.

George was sent to the naval training center at Great Lakes, 111, for his basic training in navy life. George had been a member of the Marine Corps reserves and had completed six months active duty for training at the Marine "boot camp." Herbert was a student at Connellsville Joint High School before enlisting for four years of naval service. Two Youths Hurl- In Car-Pole Crash WAYNESBURG, Pa. (UP)-Bernard Shenal, 19, and Joseph P. Haky.

21, both of Mather, in Greene County, were injured Tuesday when their automobile hit a utility pole near Fredericktown, Washington County. They were in fair condition In Greene County Memorial Hospital here. The accident occurred on Route 88 a half mile north of Frdericktown. Police said Shenal was the driver. Fbcm in 1 trip oc m.
