The actress, who has a strong theatrical background, was called in by One Life's new producer, Linda Gottlieb, and asked what kind of character she would like to play on a soap. Batten came up with the character of Luna and handed the executive a list of Luna's qualities. Impressed with Batten's creativity, Gottlieb hired her soon after their initial meeting.

"The New Age stuff was not on my list," says Batten. "The show made some variations on my list, but almost all the rest of the stuff was my idea. What I respect in Luna is that she treats men like she's on the same level with them. "She's a spiritual person who has a strong need to help other people and for them to appreciate what she does." Because a lot of what Luna believes in is foreign to Batten, she has had to do a great deal of research for the part. "When I began playing the role, I didn't know much about the New Age stuff," says Batten.

"When Luna did her first autumnal equinox, I thought, 'What in the heck is So I got all these books on rituals. I've come to really enjoy doing the research for this character."
