Darryl was off to a fast start at age 3. His earliest memory is working with Konald Colman in "If I Were King" in the 1930s. He sparkled in his bit part and soon was in demand as a runny-nosed kid actor. He got a taste of Hollywood nepotism in a hurry. While still little more than a puling toddler he played a hefty role with Bing Crosby in "The Starmaker," circa 1939.

"Bing sent me to his brother, Everett, who was a big talent agent at the Darryl recalled. "After that I began working all the time. I don't know how many movies been in. I quit counting at No sooner had Darryl departed the sand box for the bright lights of movies than Dwayne, two years his junior, set off with lunch bucket and a change of diapers to follow in his footsteps. The brotherly breadwinners, however, rarely worked in the same films.

When they did toil together, Darryl had the better roles. Dwayne, as befitted a kid brother, made do with bit parts. Dwayne became a star in "The Bob Cummings (1953-58) and headed the cast of "Dobie Gillis" (1958-63).

Dwayne saw to it that Darryl was hired to play his brother in six "Dobie episodes, which all that brotherly when one considers there were 148 segments in the series. Darryl starred a single year in his own dramatic series, playing a Yankee soldier during the Civil War.
