With both the mile relay and sprint medley relay teams establishing records in that meet; and coming close to the varsity marks, the hopes for a top showing in the Kansas Relays this week soared. In the sprint medley the Wildcat team, of DeLoss Dodds, Dave Burton, Jim Vader and Tom Rod-da stepped the mile in 3:24.4 for the record Saturday. At the Texas Relays this foursome had a non-winning time of 3:23.3 but Coach Ward Haylett viewed Saturday's performance as even better than that. "The track Saturday was i much poorer condition than that at Texas," he explained, "and while that does not show in the records, it still is significant." The Wildcat time at Texas was 3:23.3, a varsity record. Dodds ran a 47.7 quarter in the sprint medley, and Rodda had half mile as the anchor man.

In the mile relay Dodds anchored the event with a 47.6 performance, as the Wildcats won in 3:13.6, more than three seconds faster than the old record. The varsity record in the mile relay is 3:13.4 set in the Central Intercollegiate at Milwaukee last sea son. Haylett was also pleased with the two mile relay team that fin ished fourth in 7:46.5. Gene 0' Connor ran his first half mile in competition as a leg in that race and turned in a 1:54.4 performan ce. Duane Holman, the two miler, had a 1:56.8 clocking.

Rodda was unable to run in the event as it came too close to the sprint med ley, but he will be able to at Kansas since the two races are on separate days. in Kansas handed defending cham pion Iowa State a couple of defeats 13-4 and 8-3 as fine pitching by Lefty Larry Miller figured in both games; Missouri hit well in winning a pair from Nebraska 9-6 and 12-5, and Colorado and Oklahoma broke even in two.
