REICHARDT United Feature Syndicate NEW YORK April Ramirez, one of the newer characters on Days of Our Lives, definitely was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth. And this makes it all the more fun for actress Lisa Howard to play the role. April, the daughter of an alcoholic father, was born in the barrio to a dirt-poor family. After her father Monty (Jay Robinson) recently pulled the plug on her terminally ill mother, April tried to take the rap for him. She had been indicted for murder and was about to be sent off to jail before her father finally confessed.

The only bright spot in April's life is her relationship with Dr. Michael Horton (Michael Weiss), who has been trying to help his lady love. But, prideful to a fault, April has thwarted him every step of the way. "April is inept when it comes to men!" laughs the 25-year-old Canadian-born Howard, who joined Days of Our Lives in June 1988. But Howard does give her alter ego high marks in other areas.

"April is very loyal to her family," says Howard. "She's street smart and headstrong. "Since I'm an only child, I can identify with that aspect of her," way to develop April's potential would be through her relationship with Mike," says Howard. "A lot of women begin to see good things in themselves by having somebody who loves them bring it out in them. I would like to see the confidence she gains as a result of her involvement with Mike extend to the rest of her life." An actress since age 17, Howard has appeared in several films and nighttime TV shows.

She played the title role in the national tour revival of Gigi with Louis Jourdan. Before landing on Days of Our Lives, Howard was seen as undercover cop Syd Weber on All My Children. Since the character was never given a story line of her own, it was a disappointing experience for Howard. "I had a lot of plans for Syd, but unfortunately none of my ideas were ever taken seriously. I prefer playing April because she's multidimensional." For now, Howard plans to stay on the soap.

But in the future, she wants to open her own production company. "I don't want to wind up as a 40-year-old actress waiting by the phone," she says. "I want to have control over what I do in my career since I know better than anyone else what I have to offer." Later, Rick slipped a drug into Stacey's tea, and when Stacey later regained consciousness, she was confronted by a court officer, who had paid her a visit and found her out cold, the house in a mess and J.J. fending for himself.

The court later put J.J. in Jack's care. After getting Jeff's anonymous letter, Amelia (Rocky) arrived in Corinth looking for Trucker, who was jailed when Clay (Alex) pressed assault charges against him. United Feature Syndicate No one believed Eddie when he said he was seeing a girl. Lisa told Laura she slept with Kevin.

Evan wouldn't let Charlie leave the diner at night. James and Mickey came to Charlie's rescue. Charlie refused to report anything. Helen found a friend in Mr. Tovlin.

Roberta got upset with Jessie when she found out that Jessie spent the night in the same house with Mickey, even though nothing happened.
