with the recommendation of Ransome the well known mining engineer a crosscut is to be driven from the 200 level to pick up the faulted section of the Moss vein This vein from the surface to the 100 level is understood to have produced a half million in gold and it is the impression of the neighborswho have examined the property that further development will bring to light the same wonderful grade of ore There has been opened on this level a big body of low grade ore but the rich streak that was sought for and had not been found Investigation of the territory indicates that the vein faulted and that it may be picked up with further crosscutting The Moss was one of the first mines struck in the San Francisco district the original discoverer being done out of it by Johnny Moss Moss was a guide and Indian nterpretor and was known throughput the southwest among the Indian tribes The old trail extending through the Wallapai and other mountain ranges from the Colorado river to Fort Apache was named after Moss and his name became attached to the Moss mine although the discovery was made by another prospector Moss sold the mine after a large amount of gold had been taken from it
