Indictments Out of Twenty two Cases To the Hon Lewis Judge We the grand jury duly em Dannelled and sworn for the October 1909 term to inquire into all matters brought before us bog to make this our final report We have investigated twenty two eases and have found sixteen indictments as follows to wit Burglary 2 Rape i 1 Grand larceny 6 Felony 1 Assault with intent to murder 3 Conspiracy to obtain money under false pretense 3 Total 16 4Ve have investigated and found no till ihsix cases The recommendation of the last grand jury for the re submission to this grand jury of two cases was by vote ignored In the matter of the investigation of the killing of two women by a blast on the Shannon Railroad we find that the evidence presented before this grand jury does not justify a charge of criminal carelessness but consider that a certain amount of carelessness was in evidence and fcad the proper care been taken by tfie contractors the unfortunate accident might have been prevented md we recommend that more precaution be taken at the loading of blasts when people reside within the range of such explosions and that different and more thorough methods be taken for the information of people in or near the work We wish to thank the sheriff and district attorney for their promptness in furnishing witnesses for our examination We also thank your honor and all county officials for Fair Among the first horsemen to arrive here for the Territorial fair was McEuen accompanied by Henry Gray who were in attendance at the first Graham County fair at Safford Mr McEuen reports that it was a great success and will be made an annual event at Safford He brings with him these horses Prince Zombro belonging to Dr Belt that won the free for all at Safford and has a mark of 227J and will be entered in the 219 Copper Stake Maggie Barkley a pacer belonging to McEuen and Sam Barkley to be entered in the 220 ana 218 pace Navajo Girl a two-year-old owned by Dr Belt a trotter Friday a three-year-old belong ing to Dan Evans of Tucson and two green colts belonging to George Olney werj in the bunch of racing animals Another horse was Golden Boy belonging to Henry Gray which will be entered in the half mile running races The premium books will be out this week and the billposters and bills of the fair left this week and the Territory will be plastered with flaming announcements of the biggest fair ever held here The secretary of the fair commission has received the following entries for the Los Angeles to Phoenix automobile race The cars are the Elmore White Steamer Ford Franklin and Apperson President Bullard has sent to the American Automobile Association for the li cense for the races under its rules The Copper Queen and the Calumet Arizona mining companies have generously offered two copper cups each valued at 100 each for track races The cups will arrive here in a few days and be placed on exhibition The commission was disappointed to hear that Wilbur Wright may not give paid exhibitions but are still hopeful of getting Glenn Cur tiss whose wonderful eight cylinder Gold Bag biplane won the international speed contest at Rheims and other events and is probably the fastest and most compactly built aeroplane in the world It weighs about five hundred pounds and has control largely centered in a steering wheel instead of several levers as in the Wright biplane Curtiss has been getting 500 a day for flights and the commission thinks he would be worth the price Cur tiss has had less trouble with his motor than any aerial navigator in the
