Fell 10 Feet And Then Tfs Able to Ilullil Fire Last Thursday afternoon Frod Hass fell into a shaft of tho Mining company 140 feet deoj) and is still alivo and will no doubt got woll.

Mr. Hass tolls a vory improbable story and ono that circumstances do not bear out, ono of thrilling adventuro and miraculous escape Ho says that he went to a shanty near tho shaft and as ho openod tho door was attacked by throo men, who struck him over tho head with an iron bar, which rendered him insonsiblo and whon ho recovorcd consciousness found himself at tho bottom of tho shaft Ho- claims to havo tho Wills boys, as one of Iji ants, but tins was provonf; bio by the f.tct that Mr. illS'tfiiB at Eden, about 15 miles away, and had been thoro a week with his wife, at the timo Hass fell into tho shaft. It scorns that Hass and his partner, Jako Filliman, in company with a prospector had started with provisions to a mino owned by Hass and Filliman above Black Eock, but before rcaohing Hass got bohind and tho other two continued on to the camp, where they remained all night but Hass did not show up. Next morning Filliman started in search of him, and nearSpenazuma ho met Short Miller, Eugene Matthews and Drew Wilson, who had found tho horso and saddle bolong ing to HabS.

Tho four started to look for him and presently saw snioko coming from a shaft. They raised the door at the top and called, when Hass answered Ono of tho boys wont down put a rope around the body of Hass to kcop him from falling and ho climed up tho ladder. After hearing his story tho party examined the ground but found no signs of a struggle, no bio or anything to substantiate his story. Tho mouth of tho shaft in which Hass was found is oovorcd. with heavy doors, T.hoy will, not remain open when raised unless hooked to a post, and it is thought that ho raised ono of tho doors and was looking down tho shaft when tho door foil knocking him in.

The most xprobablo solution of tho story is that ho attempted to go down tho shaft on tho ladder and when he camo to where somo of the stops wero hrokon off, foil to tho bottom, for had ho foil from tho top, 140 feet, ho wpuld un doubledly bayo beon Jqljed. It is cortain that ho fell quite a distance, for his head was badly cut and bo received several sovorc cuts and bruises on other parts of tho body. THE BANK OF SAFFORD. Incrensa of AVorblne Capital. Sinco tho beginning of tho current calondar year tho Bank of Safford has set aside ten thousand (10,000) dollars as surplus, which practically incrpases tho working capital of tho institution to twenty thousand (S20.000) dollars.

Not a cent of the earnings' of this bank has ever been drawn, by either of tho proprietors, so that this addition to tho working capital represents tho entire profits of tho bank since it was openod for businoss, Tho present working capital is, of not a measuro ot tho bank's responsibility to its depositors. Being a privato bank and not incorporated, its responsibility is equal to tho combined estates of both partners, Messrs. J. N. Porter and Pnrsley, and is thcrofore more than 8100,000 This renders it really safer as ft depository of public or private funds than an incorporated bank of five or ton times its capital.

Tho insuranco carried by tho B.ank of Saffoid against loss by robbery or burglary, combined with its careful and conservative managoinont, makes it ono of the safest in tho country, and patrons may rest easy in tho assurance that their funds ontrustod to it aro secure.
