It was lather embarrising to tho chairman when reading tho slated committee whom ho was to appoint whon ho was compolled to go to Mr. Dysait to mako out tho name. It was lemarkablo how few tho candidates wore. No ono seemed to want a nomination. Only threo contests occured in making up tho ticket, and oven then a Democrat had to bo placed in nomination, but only received 4 votes.

Tlu following resolution was read and adopted: "Eesolved, That, we approvo all well directed efforts in tho interest of economy in public affairs, and wo therefore ondorso tho action of our Representative Hon. Joseph Fish in tho introduction and passago of tho Classification Law in tho 18th Legislature, and wo also approvo the efforts of Judge C. E. Moorman in sustain ing tho law in tho courts of the Territory." Tho chairman, thinking ho would get no other opportunity to inflict his McKinloy ideas on tho people attempted to boost with all his gold bug tendencies to the skys. PLATFORM.

"While we declaro our allegiance to tho Republican party wo consider our Territorial and County interests paramount to everything else, and consider it tho duty of this convention to nominate only such men as havo tho ability, honesty and qualification to conduct tho business of their various offices, if elected, upon tho strictest principals of economy, and recommend that our legislators use all honorable means to securo the passage of new laws and such amendment of any existihg law that will enable tho people of tho Territory and tho several counties thereof to reliovo themselves of the present incubus of bedt and tlio prosent rate of high taxation. Tho tariff question having been decided by actual experiment in favor of protection to American industries and against tho policy of tho Domocratic party which has closed our factories and thrown hundreds of thousands of honest laborers out of employment, and increasod tho national debt by two hundred and sixty two million dollars in timo of peaco and brought unprecedented disaster upon tho American people. Wo confidently look forward to a return of pros perity under tho administration of that ablo and patriotic exponent of tho doctrine of protection to American industries, Wm. McKinloy. Wo denounce as an insult to tho intelligence of tho Amorican people the present effort of tho Democratic party to escapo tho responsibility for tho present national administration, by now pi onuses to tho peoplo on tho silver question.

Wo have no apology to mako for the record of the Republican party on tho silver question, and wo call attention to the fact that tho part7, dining tho administration of Benjamin Harrison, placod more silver in circulation than all tho domocratic administrations sinco the establishment of this government. Wo invito close attention to the records of tho rtspectivo parties as a better test than flrnisy delusive promises mado on tho evo of election. V. Grosetta, adjoining tho building of tho Tucson Grocery company was awarded yestorday. An order was also placed for tho plate glass and iron work for tho iront, to bo delivered as soon as possible as tho building must by contract bo finished within fifty daj's. Tho Star takes pleasure in announcing that Tucson is entering upon a period of tho greatest building activity tho town has over known. It is said that Messrs.

Fitch, Fleishman and Ivanovich, who own the grounds on Congress street adjoining tho postoffico building on tho east are proparing to build this fall a largo and business block which in general appearance will coirespond with tho postoffico building. It is said that Geo. Pusch will also erect a two story business block on a lot owned by him adjoining tho proposed A. O. U.

He was born at in 1802, and was elected to the United States senate in 1843, serving six years. "Gatu" says that Secretary Browning once told him that he paid out from his own pocket to maintain appearances while he was a cabinet officer. And this was in Lincoln's time, before the era of extravagance in official life in Washington. DONE WITH A ROCK. Ono Young Man Knocks another Young Man Down With a Kock.

It seems that Pratt Stewart had confided a secret to James and both young men dwell at Graham, so does tho girl, and Jim, of course, had to joko her about Pratt. She told it and Pratt heard of it. On Tuesday last Pratt was brought beforo Justice Fonda to plead to tho charge of assault and battery. A jury of twelvo men was secured and tho testimony all in and tho case closed, whon Mr.

McGowan, attorney for tho defense mado a motion to dismiss tho case on the ground that Mr. Morris, attornoy for tho Territory had failed to prove in what county sind Territory tho offense had been committed. Last Tuesday afternoon as tho trial of Pratt Stewart was going on quite a crowd had collected near Jacobson's store and Porter Rollins undertook to mako his horse go through a course of gymanistic exercises and tho result was that tho horso foil, and Porter struck with his back on tho end of a railroad tie.

At first it was not thought he was hurt at all but in a few minutes ho commenced fainting and continued to do so for some timo. Dr. Weeks was called, and ho infoims us that whilo tho injmy is a severo one it is not dangerous. Sinco tho above was put in typo it was learned that Porter Rollins died of his injuiies at 1 o'clock Wednesday morning. The funeral services wore held onThuisday.

Campaign managers of Democratic national headquarters aro elated at tho receipt from tho Dur-ant press cuttings, a responsible London concorn, of a certified copy of tho much discussed and disputed articlo quoted from the Financial News of London 'jnder date of April 30, 1894, which declares: "That if the United Slates were to adopt tho silver basis tomorrow British trade would bo ruined beforo tho year was out." When tho Republican campaign managers denied tho authenticity of tho article and claimed to have received a denial of tho samo by the editor of tho Financial News, inquiry was made ir. London as to whether tho journal of that date really did contain such an article. Eesponao was received as above and tho editorial in question will now bo spread broadcast by managers and others working for free silver.

Senator Teller, of Colorado, who was at headquarters to-day stated that more than a year ago ho was shown and read a copy of tho Financial News, of April 30, 1894, containing tho idontical editorial which is entitled, "England and tho silver question." B. Reed of Portland, from tho first district, Nelson Dingley of Lewiston. from the second district, Seth Milliken of Belfast, from the third district and Charles A. Boutello of Bangor from tho fourth district who have for years represented Maine in tho national house, aro tho congressmen re-elected. Returns indicate a total voto in the stato of 3Iainc of about 110,000 with a Republican plurality of about 52,000.

The New Mexican on Sept. 11. printed a letter from Governor Thornton, in which ho declares Congressional Delegato T. Catron to bo a platroon, a liar and a coward. Tho affairs grows t)ut of tho Ex-Sheriff Chaves assassination case, wherein political supporters of Catron aro accused of tho brutal murder of a leading Democrat of this county in 1892.

Catron is alleged to havo dictated to tho Albuquerque Citizen an snonymous communication which seriously reflects upon tho personal and officirl character of Governor Thornton. Mutual friends of the two parties to-night fear a personal encounter between tho two men. Tho district school at Thomas opened last Monday, with a good attendance. BURNED DOWN. Dwelling House, Together With its Contents Consumed by 1'ire.

Last Monday, just afternoon the cry of fire was heard and a great smoko could bo seen ascending fiom tho direction of the Lay ton church, but closer investigation revealed tho fact that it was tho three room brick dwelling houso of Adam Welker, located on Church street. There is nothing positivo as to tho orogin of tho firo, but it was "wash day" and tho lady who was doing tho washing carried somo firo on a small shovel from tho stove out of doors, and Mrs. Welker, shortly after locked tho house and went away. It is supposed that whilo tho firo was being carried a coal fell onto the carpet and was not noticed. Everything except a small portion of bedding was destroyed, including S125 in green backs.

Mr. Welker is at Globe and as yet does not know of his loss. The brick wall was not damaged to any great extent and a subscription list was started the samp day and enough has been subscribed to rebuild tho house. In a recent letter to tho Mr. W.

F.
