Cloverdale tenants approve aid package of $29 million Residents of the Cloverdale housing project in Pierrefonds have voted to accept a $29-million federal bid to protect low-income tenants. Aboyt 350 of the complex's 2,000 mostly low-income tenants gathered at Ste. Suzanne Church in Pierrefonds last night and overwhelmingly supported the aid package put forward last month by the Canada Mortgage and Housing which originally owned the project. The agreement follows weeks of bargaining between the Crown corporation and the Cloverdale Housing Co-op. The co-op was reluctant to accept the deal until it won the right to choose the directors of a non-profit corporation that will be set up to administer the $958,000 in annual subsidies being offered by the CMHC over the next 28 years.

Ex-Marcos crony By STEPHEN BINDMAN Ottawa Citizen OTTAWA The federal government is trying to deport a former crony of deposed Philippines dictator Ferdinand Marcos even though the fugitive millionaire was granted refugee status in 1986. Despite his status, Dewey Go Dee does not have an automatic right to stay in Canada, although he can't be sent back to the Philippines, immigration officials say. "We're not preoared to let him stay in Canada," said Immigration Department official Gerry Maffre. In a secret February 1986 ruling, the Immigration Appeal Board said Dee had a "well-founded fear of persecution" if returned to his homeland because he had fallen out of favor with Marcos. One member of the board, however, warned that declaring the textile magnate to be a refugee would be an invitation to "every crook and gangster abroad to come to Canada." GIROUX, Roger W.H.

Visitation Thursday, from 2 to 5 m. 7 to 10 p.m. and Friday, 8 30 lo 10 a.m. Earlier this year, an immigration adjudicator agreed with federal government lawyers that Dee should be deported. But Dee is now appealing that ruling to the same appeal board that declared him a refugee.

No date has yet been set for a hearing, his lawyer, Gerald Goldstein, said yesterday. Dee, now living in seclusion in British Columbia, was a millionaire who played poker aboard Marcos's presidential yacht before he quietly fled the Philippines in 1981. He left behind more than $80 million in debts and triggered the near-collapse of the country's financial system. He was later charged with 176 counts of fraud, including "economic sabotage" punishable. by death.

Dee, 48, entered Canada from Costa Rica on a tourist visa in 1982 and then immigration minister Lloyd Axworthy began deportation proceedings against him. i I 4.
