Railroad Rumors Are Materializing Railroad rumors that have been fly ing around thick and fast for the past i everal months are beginning to crystallize into facts. That there has been unusual activity among railroad survey parties all along tbe International border, between El Paso and the Gulf of California during the Mimmer months has been patent, but no definite news was given out as to the plans of the different companies naving die surveying parties out. as a matter of fact, railroad companies hac neterbeen in the habit of taking the general public into their confidence nor of disclosing their plans to rival roads.

The country to the north, east and neat of Nogales is literaly covered ith survey stakes, and tbe Nogales Tirres says quite a large party of surveyors are at present working along the line between that city and Loclnel, to tbe east. This party is supposed to be equipped by tbe Rock Island, a wealthy aggressive road that is known to be after a through line of its own to the Pacific coast, and they want to establish their lines as close to the Mexican border as possible, to avoid the heavy grades, the ice and snon and the drifting sands of the more northern lines. A survey runs from Naco along the Huachucas towards Nogales and westward along the Mexican boundary. The Rock It'and surveyors are in the field and grade stakes are set along the route above outlined. It is probable 1907 may see the beginning of work on this line in Cochiss county.

A' Monument For a Live Town It has been said that by mixing the following ingredients wisely, a live hustling town is su'e to result. As arranged by the printer it appears a monument, but it was be understood that not all monuments need be erected for dead issues, as this is most emphatically a live one: Grit, Vim Push Snap Energy Schools Morality) Churches Harmony Cordiality Advertising) Talk about it Write about it Speak well of.it Healthy location Help to improve it Advertise in its paper Good country tributary Patronize its merchants Elect good men to office Honest competition in prices Faith exhibited good works Make the atmosphere healthy Fire croakers, loafers and dead beats Let your object be the welfare, growth and promotion of your town and its people. Speak well of the public spirited men, and also be one of them yourself. Be honest with all our fel- 'owmen. Where Discrimination Was Dangerous Governor Kibbey and Dr.

Stone were appointed Saturday to judge the baby show at the Fair. Governor Kibbey was to judge the boys, of which there were seven, and in announcing his conclusions he showed himsel more a diplomat than a hero. He said that he could not discriminate, and awarded seven first prizes. Dr. I Stone was to judge the girl babies, and he proved himself no hero either, but a gallant gentleman, no nrsi Inquired if there were enough prizes to go around, and when assured that there was but one prize he said he would have to follow.the governor's plan and award ten prises.

Pbotnix Gazette. r- -j- Cochise County EieCtion Contests Attorney D. L. Cunningham this morning filed a protest with the board of supervisors against canvassing the returns from Precinct No. of Douglas.

The protest is signed by set en citizens of Douglas and recites three reasons, as follows: "Because said purported returns are not attested by two election clerks, who were appointed by the election board for said Precinct No. 4, but such purpsrted returns are attested, if attested at all, by four persons appointed by said election board as ballot clerks at such election. "Because, the place for holding of said election was, prior to the date of holding, the same designated as the City Hall within said precinct No. 4 by the justice of tbe peace in and for Precinct No. 8 of said county, the justice's precinct in which said election precinct No.

4 is situate, and also by the board of supervisors in and for Cochise county; and the said election was not held thereat until the votes were all counted without adjournment sod because the. ballot box for aid Precinct No. 4, used in which to deposit the ballots at said Precinct, was removed from the said City Hall before the ballets were all counted therefrom, and because the ballots were not counted at said place where the same were cast. "Because the official ballots for said precinct unused were not kept sealed and returned to the board of supervisors as required by law, and because, one tally list of the votescount-ed, also one list of the names of tbe voters voting, and alo one copy of the great register used at such election, was not held and kept by the Inspector for the time after said election for tbe inspection of all voters as the law in such cases made and provided, but said lists of voters, tally lists and great register copy were otherwise disposed of and cannot be found. "Wherefore, your petitioners pray that such purported returns be not canvassed as the official returns of said precinct and that same be thrown out from your canvass.

Hants, Sims, "HESton-e, A Miller, Ewell, A Richardson', Demarest The matter was discussed by the board and taken under advisement.
