W. Bowers, one of ttie principal parties interested in the Black Hoise mine situated about and a half miles from the city on the Senator highway. A lead of gold-sil-vr ore assaying $80 a ton is reported uncovered at a point on' a drift 60 feet north of the shaft on the 100-foot level. Al Bowers said that Los Angeles had changed considerable since his last visit to that city, fifteen years having elapsed since he was on the coast. From Phoenix C.

W. Gandy who is a resident of Phoenix was a visitor to this city yesterday. He came on a matter of business. From Denver J. L.

Los Angeles Visitor. J. D. L. Williams is a visitor in the city from Los Angeles, and is staying at the Yavapai club.

Banning Creek Visitor Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mbsher were in the city from Banning creek yesterday. Successful Poultry Raiser. Mrs.

E. Overhuls of Williamson Vlalley, was in the city yesterday. Mr. Overhuls is a rancher of that district and according to his wife, the ranch has a fine showing of corn, potatoes, sudane cane and milo maize. Mrs.

Overhuls herself specializes in poultry raising. Her bronze turkeys showed an increase of one hundred this year despite the unfavorable late spring. Yesterday was a business trip, and resulted in the marketing of fancy Rhode Island Red chickens, for layer and chicken purposes. Month Vacation. Mr.

and Mrs. J. S. Acker are spending a mlonth in Los Angeles, Pasadena, Catalina Islands and other California points on a combined recreation and visiting, tour. They will return about the first of October.

Held Up On Road. Bruce Piper, engineer in charge of the Prescott-Jerome highway, is held up because of the difficulty of securing a steam shovel engineer to operate a small steam shovel on the surfacing work which is being rusred on the SMirimit of the highway. Mr. Piper is scouting himself and has several others on the lookout for a competent man who will man the shovel and get the surfacing small rock and gravel in place before rains and winter set in. Roy Davidson, who' is employed by the United Verde as a timekeeper, was in the city yesterday on a business trip. From Los Angeles. Frank Gillilen, who is a resident of Los Angeles, is on the city on a business mission. He is a guest of Herndon Norris at the Yavapa. club.

Former High School Girl Here. Miss Lillian Mackie, who attended the Prescott high school last year, was in the city yesterday visaing friends. She was a guest of the Mile Hi Club at the reception given to the new students of the high school this week. Camp Verde Visitor Mrs. Ralph Monroe who comes from Camp Verde is a visitor in the city.

JPotito for Ford In the window of the St. Michael bar is a four pound sample potato grown near Jerome Junction. This "spud" was brought in as a sample to bp furnished the grill soon lo open. On the potato is a placard reading "For sale or will trade for a Ford." Gone to the Coast Roy Sloane who is head chef at the United Verde Hotel at Jerome was in the city yesterday. He spent the day visitinsr friends about the city.

He leaves tonight for Los Angeles on a three weeks' vacation. From Copper Basin Richard McNary is in the city from Copper Basin, arriving yesterday. Visiting Family Dan Campbell, father of Governor Campbell, was in the city yesterday from Jerome. He will spend a few days. at his home in Prescott.

C. Davis, of the Arizona Packing Company, made a trip Saturday by automobile to Wickejnburg, accompanied by his family. They had a good trip in spite of the washed out conditions of the wagon roads, and all had a drink from the Has-sapampa water in the original "Has-sayamper town." On a recent trip to the Clevenger group of mines which were taken over by a Portland. Oregon syndicate about ten days ago, Jack Odom, one of the syndicate found and killed four big diamond backed rattle snakes. He had the hides tanned by a taxidermist and is showing them proudly. The Ingest one measured five and one half feet, and was a great size. Old timers claim this was the higffest they ever saw of this variety of rattler.

This is one of the pretty homes of that part of the city. Organizing New Company. The Portland-Prescott mining company is under process of organization to operate the Clevenger Copper, Silver, Gold group on Little Copper Creek. The principals in the company are here from Portland, Oregon. The three Odum hrothcrs are the moving spirits in the enterprise which has great promise.

J. W. Jenkins, and old time mining engineer of this section, is consulting Engineer, and Henry Stoffer will probably be in 'charge of under ground work. In From Ruby Silver Mine. A.

C. Gilm'ore came in Sunday from the Ruby Silver mine, and says he is pushing a raise to the surface for air from the 400 foot tunnel. Back From Mesa. Miss Mazie Startzman who has been on a business trip to Mesa, has returned home. She had a very sue cessful trip.

P. Seaman left Iat night for Clarkdale and Jeroiiie, on business lo be gone several days. Receiving Welcome Royale Ed. who had his leg broken on the last day of July is out of the hospital after a long siege. He traveling on four legs now, but hopes to be able to dron one of them in a few days and the other one a little later.

He was riding on a motor car between Wick-enburg and Hot Springs junction and ran head-on into a freight train. Many friends are giving 'Ed" the glad "hello" on seeing him safe on the road to recovery. Slept In School House. O. B.

Marston who covers this section regularly for the C. F. Web ber Company of Los Angeles arrived yesterday in his auto from Phoenix via the Congress Junction road. He says he slept night before last on the floor of the school house at Yava, as the gulch was impassable, and that all those who the racintr stream soon after the big rains, had to be pulled out of the quick sands by mule team. He says he picked a bad day for the drive, but, that if there were a few small bridges on the route the road would be fine even in wet weather as the formation is sandy and dries off quickly.
