There are just 105 boxes, which is a large increase over the number in former years, but there are now 150 people on the waiting list so no boxes will go begging.

Those who are not there or not on the list will have to depend on the slim hope of a lot of those who are listed failing to make good. WOMAN'S CLUB. There were a number of short speches and several com mittees were appointed to perform duties that it is believed will be for the benefit of all the real state dealers In the city. REPUBLICANS The members MEET of the TODAY. Republican ust 31st is now reported on by the sta tistical bureaus of most countries The result is shown to give considerably higher figures than ever, both for the yield of beetroots and the manufacture of sugar.

In Germany the product Is about 23 per cent higher than the average of the last five years, and upward of 25 per trent above the result of the previous year. But there is another reason that will prevent the quotations running up. We havs nowadays such a serviceable substitute for sugar as saccharine. Its iprice is kept high by the heavy duty levied on it in all agrarian countries, but if the more nutritious means of giving sweetness to our food is too dear, people will resort to it for the sake of uconomv. Xor is It a secret that the manipulations of the Parisian speculator, Santa Marina, are responsible for the recent rise of prices.

The fact that within a few hours the quota tion could rise by li shillings per hundredweight is accountable for, only by speculative methods. Generally a reduction set in immediately because many cautious bulls realized their quick gains. Fortunately the clearing houses raised the margin deposits for investments In sugar already. It has been remarked that the serious dealers have been very reluctant In purchasing any amount of the new crops. They justly county central committee, elected at point out that the visible quantity of the recent primary, will assemble this afternoon at o'clock at re publican headquarters, room 413 and 414 Mcmipg block.

The meeting will be primarily for organization and it is hoped every precinct com mitteeman who can do so will make a supreme effort to be in attendance. BOY SCOUTS TAKE NOTICE. There will be a meeting of the Boy facouts in the boys room at the Y. M. C.

A. this afternoon at 5:30. The scouts owning uniforms are especially requested to be present. Plans for fair week are to be decided upon, the entertainmnt committee wishes the scouts to act as guides and es wis lor visitors uuring that event. Scouts be sure to attend this meet ing at 5:30 today.

sugar is no less than 51,600 tons, and therefore lc per cent above the avail able quantity at the same data of the previous year. It is therefore to be ex pected that the wild exaggeration of the speculation will not long continue to dictate such exorbitant prices as are now arrived at. continental corre THE CALLS ONE' MUST MAKE. Entries mav be made at the office of the fair com mission of the Fleming block, under the Phoenix Xational Bank. Tn a practical talk of every-day etiquette in the Xovember Woman's Home Companion the author records the calls that one must positively make.

"Certain stated calls must be made. The call at least once a year upon those on your calling list; the call after having been entertained at din ner, or luncheon, or at an evening entertainment: the call of congratula tion after a marriage, or a birth; the call of condolence upon those in sorrow: the call of inquiry at the house of illness: the call upon the newcomer into your enlghborhood, or up on a stranger who lias ueen intro duced to you by a friend; the return call, when a first call has been made upon you none of these can be evad ed. A first call should be returned within a week, or at longest a fort night; a dinner call, or, in fact, any others of those pained, should be paid promptly. "If two women call together, it is the older of the two who makes the signal for departure by rising or giv ing a significant glance to her com panion. "There is no need for great formal ity of conduct In calling.

The well bred woman who Is at ease in her own house need have no fear of ap pcaring awkward in the house of an other. To come in quietly after leav ing her card at the door; to speak. first of all, to her hostess, then to recognize the other persons present to chat with those nearest the seat she has taken, avoiding topics which might lead to argument or discussion; to take her cup of tea and bit of cake or sandwich; to leave at the end of twenty minutes, or half an hour after shaking hands with her hostess, and bowing farewell to the others present here is all that constitutes a call. A little familiarity robs calling of any terrors It may possess for the bashful, or for those unaccustomed to society; and one learns it is just the old-time 'afternoon visit' with a new name. THE BOOM IN THE SUGAR MARKET. Since the beginning of the current year the prices of all varieties of sugar in the wholesale markets have morel than doubletl. From less than 9 shil lings the average quotation went up to nearly 19 shillings. Within the last six weeks we witnessed a rise of' not less than 5 shillings oer hundred weight, and even the first eleven days of September brought us another en hancement of 2 shillings. As an ex planation of this advance the continuous drought of this "summer is point ed to, the beetroots showing a veryi poor development all over Central Eu rope.

Indeed, the estimates of the forthcoming crops are now by a million and a quarter below the production of last year as far as beetroots are con cerned. Whether the cane sugar of the tropical and subtropical regions may compensate to some extent fori this extraordinary shortage, is yet un- Edison November Phonograph Records Are in.
