THE AM REPUBLICAN TWENTIETH YEAR. PHOENIX, ARIZONA, MONDAY MORNING, JUNE 14, 1909. VOL. XX. NO.

26. SECTION TWO lAGES ZONA WEATHER TO DA FAIR, THE SUMMER 0 ARIZONA Has no Terrors For Hers About Salome DEVELOPMENT GOES ON Progress of Work on Severa Important Properties, Especially Those of theAlvin Development Company of Houghton Mich. Salome, June 12. Special correspondence of The Republican.) Development work on the new properties around Salome continues to increase, despite the advent of warm weather, and this summer will see nmre work done around Salome than any previous winter, which is very unusual in the desert regions of Arizona. The Alvin Development company of Houghton, has just installed a gasoline hoist on the shaft where it has been working during the past winter and will continue the development with renewed vigor.

Albert Cronk-heit of El Paso has been appointed su-jierintenclent and will direct the future oerations. The main shaft is now clown 85 feet and has just entered the limestone. Some sulphides show in the lime and a large body of ore is expected when the contact of the limestone and underlying schist is reached, this contact being characterized on the surface by immense outcrops of iron. Messrs. Smith and Pryor have returned to Michigan to remain during the summer.

The new shaft on the Coboralla is down about sixty feet and is just penetrating the leached zone and sulphide ores are T-pm'trti vttrr mtUi ti'ii r'A 1 shaft further down the hill on the same ledge shows 113 the finest character of sulphides in the district at a shallow depth. Professor Seaman of the Michigan School of Minos, who visited the Cobralla and Ultimatum properties recently, in company with John Harris, Ward Smith and A. Tennyson Pryor, all of Houghton, was greatly pleased with the showings on the two properties, jKirticularly with the character and occurrences of the sulphide ores at the Cobralla. The tunnel on the Cobralla is now in alwmt 100 feet and being driven forward at the rate of four feet a day with the expectation of cutting the ore at about 1MI0 feet, underneath the high-grade carbonate ores shown on the surface. The Salome-Hillside Is working two shifts on the Hillside group, joining the.

spectacular "Glory Hole" of last winter. A shaft is down about forty feet and a tunnel in about seventy, both following veins of ore assaying from $30 to Roy Troxwell of Pinal county has charge of the work for he Phoenix company operating the property. The Yuma copper company, operating the Oriffin-Ltnn property, has put a whim on the new Griffin incline, now down about ninety feet, and will continue the work in this shaft. They already have a gasoline hoist on the ok! Ironwood and Arizona working shaft. A force of men has been at work lately making a new road from the property to Salome.

J. A. Mitchell and A. Matthews of Salt Lake City have purchased the Granite Wash group from Albert Al-gier and will start active development work next week. This property has been held by Algiers for many years and has some fine ore shown up.

Percy Sharpe has several men doing work on the Lime Point group, between the Cobralla and the Yuma Copper conrpany. Puller, Ewer Amine are working on their property joining the Griffin-Linn group and are taking out shipping ore showing considerable free gold, in addition to the copper values. The Sharp syndicate of Phoenix has purchased the Little Ruttcr property near Bouse and is working a large force of men. The Hareua Hula is working about twelve men following a new ore shoot recently discovered. Seth Rullock of South Dakota has been examining properties in the Tank Pass section recently.

"DON'T WORRY" Phone BLACK BISBEE CELEBRATION WILL BE Board of "Trade Plans the Largest Celebration in the History of the Territory. "The Greatest Celebration In the History of the Territory" is the emblazoned emblem on the banners of the Risbee board of trade, and from all present Indications the expression is not going to pe very far fetched. To begin with there will be three days of celebrating July 3, 4 and 5.

Three days of ear-splitting, heinous giant crackers in the morning, of red fire, diluted lemonade and burned fingers. Three idlays of good time, of restrain thrown to the four winds and King Pleasure reigning supreme; of dancing, din and noise. The Risbee board trade Is not only going to make the the greatest in the history of the territory, but in the two territories and on the "oast as well. Expense has been entirely lost sight of in arranging the program, and though not fully completed, the program already presents some altogether new ideas in Fourth of July celebrating, events that will mean an enormous expenditure of both time and money. Of course there will be the regular town sports, including the pig, fat man's race and limbing of the greased pole, with an opportunity for the young American to indulge tn pie to his heart's content, providing secreted strings do not throw him into an attack of indigestion.

The regulation balloon ascension, bowery dance and band concerts. The board of trade promises a series of carnival shows, with the newest attractions from the carnival and vaudeville world, with a carnival ball every evening. Each day there will be horse racing, as well as a series of hose races, in which large cash prizes will be offered for each event. A drilling program is being worked out, for the miners, confined strictly to actual mining work, a record to not exceed forty inches. A committee from the country club is going to offer suitable prizes for country club sports.

Tnese events will, of course, be bound to attract a good deal of attention from all parts of the territory, many clubs of this nature now being formed in most of the cities in Arizona. Though not completed, negotiations are in progress whereby there will be the celebrated Payne fireworks, probably the great Kail of Rome, one of the most renowned and expensive productions that Payne turns out. This event itself is worth coming from the remote sections of the territory 4v see, being1 an attraction that is seldom seen ILead tO-flu TT44 We Clean and Press ast WasMmtoni outside of the largest cities in the country. On the first day of the celebration there will be a grand street parade which will call for elaborate float making to represent the many business firms and organizations in Risbee. Though not yet sated It is presumed that prizes will be offered, which, of course, promise to guarantee many gorgeous creations, as is always the case in p.

parade of this kind. There will undoubtedly be a burlesque on the commercial parade that always affords a great Oval of amusement for the spectators and at the same time gives the creator of things grotesque a chance to gain recongnition. The most unusual event of the celebration will be the religious services on July Fourth by the ministers of the city and the different religious organizations. From dawn to sunset the day will be set back to the days or 1776, and all the services of the day will be carried on as in the good old times when the makers of our country had time to ston and observe the day of rest, even though they were at the most cruciaj point of the country's making. There will be sacred concerts held out of doors, religious band concerts by the bands, and preaching along the lines of 1776 theology.

As near as possible the participants in this day's ceremonies will even dress in colonial style and everything will be done to take the spectator back to the day of the ringing of the bell of liberty. There will be special railroad rates and everything planned special for the celebration accommodations, even the securing of a low ice rate for the next few days following. 1 What I Have I I You I To exchange for some-t thing some one else s. has? The president of the board is Chairman L. M. Hoehe of the board of supervisors; vice president.

District Attorney Rullard, and secretary. Dr. H. A. Hughes, county superintendent of health.

For the purpose of carrying out the provisions of the act the county board has been divided into registration districts made to conform as nearly as possible to the boundaries of the Justices' precincts. That was not possible in all cases as in at least two Justices' precints there are no physicians to act as registrars aa the law requires. Rich of the registrars is allowed a deputy registrar to whom reports maybe made in his absence. Any local registrar who fails or neglects to perform the duties imposed upon him by this act is subject to removal and such penalties as are elsewhere prescribed for neglect of official duty. This law is a part of the so-called "model law" whose enactment has been sought In nearly all states of. the uni Ion for the perfection of a system of EMM As Good As New the rush, which comes ft jlT vital statistics, but fn this territory It was adjusted to the work of the territorial and county boards of health. The board of health law provided for the gathering of such satisties but there was no way by which physicians could' be compelled to make reports, and the law was therefore never enforced.

The new law is very rigid and penalty is provided for those who neglect it The scope of it tray be understood from the following twenty-one points of information required concerning every birth, the place, full name of child, whether twin, triplet 01 other plural birth, and in case of plural birth a certificate of the number of each child In the order of its birth; the matter of legitimacy, full name of the father, residence of father; color or race of father, birth place of father, state or foreign country; age of father at last birth day; occupation of father: maiden name of mother, residence of mother, color or race of mother; birth place of mother, state or foreign country; age of mother at last birth day; occupation of mother; number of child of this mother, and the number of children of this mother living.
