JUDGE C. W. JOHNSTONE OUT Colonel C. W. Johnstone, who has been omfined to the hospital for a few days, was able to be at his office for the first time for a couple of hours yesterday.

He was driven to and from the office, but soon expects to be there regularly again. NEW CAR Costly Thompson, better as the "Hustlers," will, after today, cease "hustling" on foot. Their new 20-40 horsepower Cadillac arrived yesterday. The car Is one of the "finest now In the city and Is an evidence of the progressive methods this new real estate firm is using in Its business. J. DOHENEY PASSES A WAV-El J. Dnheney died at his home at 909 South Sixth street at an early hour yesterday morning. The deceased was 45 years of age. He was a native of California, but had been resident of this city for about eight years.

The funeral arrangements will be made later. ST. PATRICK'S BALL Phoenix Grove, No. 1. of the Woodmen's Circle will give a St.

Patrick's ball In Melczcr hall on Wednesday evening, March 17. The msic will be furnished by the Besse orchestra. A feature of the ball will be the St. Patrick souvenirs, which will be given to those In attendance. W.

T. U. will hold an all-day meeting and picnic at the home of Mrs. Velma Custer, five miles north on the Black Canyon road, All members and friends of the union are Invited. Those taking the 10 o'clock car: will, be met at the Indian school.

Mr. Vanderhoof has gone through a series of tribulations. He was first 111 of pneumonia, his condi tion at one time being so serious that his life was despaired of. Soon after a turn was taken for the better, he suffered from ptomaine poisoning, from which he Is now slowly recovering. VISITING ENGINEER Engineer Corey of the California Development company, operating In the Imperial country, and the company which turn ed the Colorado river back to its chan nel after Its wild rush into the Salton Sea, arrived here yesterday morning and spent tha day with Engineer L.

C. Hill of the reclamation service, who returned home a couple of days ago. Thev went to Granite Reef on a tour of Inspection, returning again last evening. Mr. Hill and Mr.

PROGRESS ON THE ARIZONA CANAL Yesterday was a busy day at the office of the pay master at the reclamation service. All day a long line of laborers stood waiting their turn to receive Uncle ISam's checks. The large force of men which had been doing rock work in the canal and who had been working on the gates had completed the, work, and about two humln.Hl were discharged on Saturday. The hardest and most difficult part of the work on the Arizona canal has been completed, and it will now be easy sailing for the dredge on its long run to Scottsdale.

au thorized the employment of an as sistant in the office of the associa tion, and the position has been filled by the appointment of Miss Walker. The work in the office is increasing very rapidly owing to two things. One is the numerousness of property transfen of late, all of which have to be recorded on the association books. The other is the putting Into operation of the co operative plan of canal construction by which the new Highland is to be built and Some improvements are to be made in other portions of the valley system. BUSIESS FIRM REORGANIZED The E. Thoma Manufacturing company waa reorganized yesterday by Mr. Thoma taking in O. W. McClartv as a half-partner in the business, though the name of the firm remains as it was.

The location is the same, 22 South Third avenue. The advantage of the new firm ts that its business facilities are practically doubled in this way. Mr. Thoma is an expert manufacturer of fixtures, but is not skilled in wiring. Mr.

McClarty, on the other hand, has for years been engaged in the work of a lineman and is quite expert in wiring and doing all connecting work, etc. Between them, they are prepared to do about everything that may be offered them In the. way of electrical work. Mr. McClarty is a young man who has grown up In Phoenix and for several years has been in the employ of the Pacific Gas Electric company.

COMMITTED TO ASYLUM Feli ciano; Romero was yesterday commit ted to. the asylu-n for thu insane. He is a Mexican 23 years old and his case Is rather an mid one. lie has been working in Mesa City on a ranch and says he Is not sick and has not been sick and never felt better, bi recently he held a conversation with Jesus Christ in Mesa City and was commissioned to take up the work of regulating the world and rectifying all wrongs. He came to the home of his mother in Phoenix last week and since then has been trying to regulate things there until he excited the fears of all around.

Yesterday morning he approached Constable Murphy and told him that he wanted him to. get all the school children together and he would rtgu- i late them. It was his purpose he I said to turn everybody out of Jail land kill all the bad people and then all the good people would live for-tever. The constable suggested that I thev beein at once hv turning out the good men in Jail. Feliciano agreed and accompanied him to the court house.

The of ficer opened the door to the woman's cell fn which there was a man and told Feliciano to go in and get him. He went in and Murphy turned the lock on him.
