Osborne, of Pittsburg, arrived in Yuma Wednesdajr. He intends to snend a couple of months to test the climate as a curative for bronchitis. Sheriff Nugent is the recipient of an elegant gold badge, of his office, presented to him by his deputies, Frank Burke and Louis Iaoger. It is beautifully engraved. U.

Meedcn has a new Upright Grand piano, made by the Everett Company, Boston, Mass. It is the best instrument in town. The tone ia beautifully sweet. It adds much to the Captain's office. It cost $500 and freight.

A. E. Reid, the well-known con tractor, went to San Bernardino Monday, after his family. He has a large contract and is in charge of the Citrus Canal at Gila Bend. He has 30 teams and 50 men at work and will put on a larger force next week.

Gates, who was present at the brilliant reception given Miss Henderson by Mrs. Judge W. H. Barnes and Mrs. J.

H. Martin at Tucson last Saturday, says that it was the finest entertainment ever given in Arizona. The music was magnificent, the tableaux beautiful, the repast served delicate, rich and bountiful and the dancing simply most enjoyable. The party of 125 was select, and made up of the elite of Tucson. Every arrangement was perfect, and tho evening one long to be remembered.

Bishop ICendrick of the Episcopal Church, will preach at the Court House Monday evening at the Court House Monday evening at 7 o'clock. All are invited to attend. Hugh McGinnis, father of Mrs. Ed Mayes, died suddenly yesterday at Deming, N. M.

The trial of speed between John Hodges colt Pablo Pino's grey excites much interest. It is admitted by nearly all that tie colt won the race by a neck, not by several yards as stated, but somehow, some way, somebody says that the head or neck are not to be taken into account in a race, but that the forefeet crossing the line decides the question.

D. said that he had received a telegram from w. Uoiiins, cashier or the same bank, informing him that the Pen insula Railway Company had de cided to build the lines simultane ouslv from San Diego and San Quintin to Yuma, and that they would be built as rapidly as pos sible. Col. D.

said: "This settle it, and I am satisfied that this work will be begun without delay and finished as soon as practicable." These two Jines will lorm a junc tion at Vail Trinidad, 1G0 miles southwest of Yuma and will use the same track from there to this point.
