(CP) Niagara Regldtial Police are investigating reported death threats against a man whose allegations about substandard work started a government investigation of a Fort Erie company. Police said they are keeping a close watch on the home of Bob Nor-fcurn of Thorold after he said he received three telephone threats, which he believed were made by the same man, against his life and his family. Norburn said slipshod inspection procedures at Fleet Industries were resulting in the production of defective aircraft components. His. charges have sparked investigations by the Defence Department and Transport Canada.

The Defence Department has refused to accept certain allegedly de '45 hrs. 140 (Beginners Only)' Norburn said Fleet initially offered him $6,000 as a severance settlement. He said the amount was later upped to $10,000 and then provided he signed a non-disclosure provision. A letter from Fleet to Norburn's lawyer stated the company was willing to help Norburn, provided he "discontinue his ill-considered adventure to damage the company's reputation in the aerospace industry." Norburn's lawyer, Earle Blackad-der, and legal staff for Fleet were to meet Tuesday to discuss what Black-adder believed would be an increased settlement offer. But after Norburn's allegations were made public last Saturday, the company cancelled the meeting and withdrew the offer.

Norburn intends to sue the company for wrongful dismissal but in the meantime has been left without income, severance pay or unemployment insurance benefits. Norburn said that in response to" his needs, which included a retainer for a lawyer to handle the wrongful dismissal suit, workers at Fleet took up several collections for the family. Norburn said he has received about $2,000 from employees who support his struggle. However, Jack Cunningham, plant committeeman for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, said he is unaware of any collection for Norburn. The company employs 760 people at its Fort Erie plant.

Its customers include the Canadian Forces, Boeing and Spar Aerospace. fective parts until the situation is thoroughly reviewed. Staff Sgt. Gerry Ryan said police were contacted about the threats by Welland MP Allan Pietz after Norburn went to him for assistance. He said the former quality assur-, ance supervisor at Fleet received the first threatening phone call Jan.

In a second threatening phone call Jan. 28, the caller told Norburn and his wife he knew what school their 13-year-old son was attending. During a third call on Feb.

Keith, 112, was born March 22, 1873, according to relatives. That was two months and 12 days before the birth of Eliza Williams of Wales, who was recognized by Guinness following the death of Shige-chyio Izumi of Japan at age 120. But Guinness doesn't consider that to be documentary proof. Trumble has no birth certificate. After a 120-year-old Japanese man died last month, a 112-year-old Welsh woman was cited by Guinness as the world's oldest person whose age can be verified.

In Libertyville, Mamie Keith editorial staff, said yesterday Guinness was aware of the Canadian government's support of Trumble's claim to be 118 years old. "But it's a question of authentication," Reid maintained. Trumble has a Canadian government certificate issued in 1967 marking his 100th birthday. 713 719 849-8393 REGISTRATION: Z''r FT!
