and Mrs. James Finley entertained at a chicken dinner Sunday Mr. and Mrs. H. Dane and Mr.

and Mrs. Fritz Stadel. Members of the Townsend club No. 1 attended an all day meeting in Topeka Sunday and went to Junction City Monday evening to attend the Fourth district meeting at which Don Pullen, supervisor of region 10 Colorado, and Earl Brady, state organizer, were guest speakers. The young peoples' club served a lunch.

Mr. and Mrs. Dripps of Kansas City, were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Johnson.

Mr. Dripps and Johnson attended the Kansas State-Oklahoma football game. Misses Vivian and Beverly Jean Potter visited relatives in Kanapolis over the weekend. Marcia and Michael Peter of Mission have been visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.

H. L. Dane. Mrs. Clyde Ford of Riley was in town Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard White of Savannah, visited friends in Manhattan Tuesday. Mrs. Clifford Steele was here from St.

Marys Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Finuf, Mr. and Mrs.

Alfred Pinuf and Johnny and Mrs. Grace Whitney left Monday for their home in Fairoaks, after having visited relatives in Kansas several weeks. Mrs. Eugene Kunze and her daughter in law, Mrs. Hal Kunze, of Winkler were visitors in Manhattan Tuesday.

Mr. and Lind -of the Ashland community were in town Tuesday afternoon. Bill Sampson of Junction City was in. the city: Tuesday Hoyt Purcell was in town last week on Hoyt, now of Kansas City, lived here as a boy. Mrs.

C. A. Dort will visit her daughter. Mrs. Gerald Shannon, and Mr.

Shannon in Topeka this weekend. Miss Norma Jean. Johnson, whor has been ill with pneumonia. is slightly improved. Mrs.

J. C. Diehl and children will visit her brother, Roy Drown, Jr. and family in Topeka tonight. and.

Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Francis J. Lovell and Mr.

and Mrs. T. O. McClung will attend a banquet of their insurance company in Wichita, Friday night. The Womans Society of Christian Service at Keats Is sponsoring a chicken, pie supper and bazaar Thursday night at the Methodist church in Keats.

The wrong date was given in the Mercury- Tuesday evening. Dave Dallas was in Kansas City Tuesday. He was the main speaker at the Missouri-Kansas theatre managers meeting. Mrs. H.

W. Brewer who was taken to Kansas City, the first of the week for medical treatment and observation is in Room 352, St. Luke's hospital. Miss Izora Wolfe, who broke a bone in her foot several days ago, was taken home from the hospital this morning. Her foot will be in a cast another month.

Mrs. George A. Dean, a natient in St. Mary hospital, is gradually regaining strength and feeling better. Mr.

and Mrs. Ralph Sherrill and children Wendy and Teddy of Salina visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. E.

Lundberg Sunday helping Mr. Lundberg celebrate his birthday anniversary. Mrs. Walter Jacobson who underwent surgery at St. Mary hospital last week is convalescing at home.

Miss Bertha Emery accompanied them and spent the time with her brother, Lloyd Emery, and family. Mrs. Grace McGuire has moved from the State theatre building apartments to 205 Houston. Mr. and Mrs.

Richard D. Rogers will accompany Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stewart and Mr. and Mrs.

Jess Stewart of Wamego to Kansas City this weekend to see "Babes and Mrs. J. B. Stoner of Cheyenne, has come to visit for a week with her daughter, Mrs. Richard Endacott, Mr.

Endacott Susan and Jeffrey. Mrs. T. L. Martin was over from Ogden Wednesday afternoon.

Miss Evelyn Winterscheid, Mrs. Gene Riggs and sons, Junetion City, visited Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Richard Tuesday evening. Mr.

and Mrs. H. E. Davison made a business tripe to Topeka Tuesday and attended the wrestling matches there that evening. Mrs.

William Steffins of Wakefield visited her mother, Mrs. Maude Graves, Wednesday. Edwin Bower of Tucson, has come for a visit of several weeks with his sisters, Mrs. Mabel Smith and Mrs. Florence Sanders.

Grigg and R. R. Bennett will attend an insurance meeting at the Town House hotel in Kansas City this weekend. Mr. and Mrs.

Bernard Farrell of Junction City were in Manhattan Wednesday afternoon. Everett Wareham left the first of the week for New York City. Miss Anna Crouch, who is living in Maple Hill with her brother, is spending the week in Manhattan with relatives and friends. Miss Margaret Mackey has moved from 311 South Fifth to 530. Houston.

Cpl. and Mrs. Kenneth Hart returned recently from Sparta. Wis. where they visited relatives of Corporal Hart.

Robert Stover, BT-1 of the 8. Navy was on board USS. Hellena which was fired upon by the enemy October off the east coast of Korea. Four men were killed by the blast. Robert is a son of Mr.

and Mrs. E. Stover. and Mrs. Earl Ray visited Mr.

Say's mother in Wilsey Sunday. Guests of Cpl. and Mrs. Kenneth Hart Wednesday were Cpl. Donald Schultz who has just arrived from Korea, and his mother, Mrs.

Schultz, who came down from Hanover to meet him. Corporal Schultz will spend 30 days at his home in Hanover before reporting for a new station. Mrs. Lula Burton spent Sunday in Wilsey with her mother, Mrs. Charles Brown.

Mrs. A. E. Holt of Merem, is here visiting her daughter, Mrs. Charles T.

Stiles underwent surgery. C. B. Hilliard and Mrs. Dewey Kaul were visitors from Wamego Thursday.

Sgt. John T. Foster who has at Camp Roberts, visited been a attending leadership school in Manhattan last week enroute to Fort Sill, where he will attend OCS. Mrs. Foster and baby who lived here while he was in California, accompanted him to Fort Sill.

Mrs. Elsie Williams and Miss Nannie Beesley were here from Wamego Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. E.

W. Richter, who have been living in Scott City, are moving back to Albuquerque, N. for the former's health. They are visiting Mrs. Richter's mother.

S. Stiles. The body of Mrs. Stiles, who died in Los Angeles, was brought to Manhattan for burial. Mr.

and Mrs. Harvey Haines of Sabetha were Wednesday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ward M. Keller and attended the Keller Store opening Thursday, Mr.

and Mrs. Leo Fosha have sold their home at 322 Pierre and are moving to 1869 Platt. Mr. and Mrs. Mont Green will attend the football game in Lawrence Saturday.

Mrs. Finley Wickham was in Kansas City the first of the week to see her son, Neal Van Doren, who is in a hospital there. Neal's condition is improving and he will undergo an eye operation in the near future. Mrs. A.

Chilcott and three children left Coffeyville by plane Saturday afternoon for Denver where they were met by Mr. Chilcott and taken to their new home at Lead, S. Chilcott family lived Manhattan before Mr. Chilcott, was business the Coffeyville Journal. Recently he became editor and general manager of the Lead Call and the Deadwood Pioneer Times, Seaton publications in South Dakota.

A. Durland of the engineering school will open the series talking on opportunities in engineering. He will be followed by seven department heads in the school who will explain specific opportunities in their respective fields. Prof. Leland S.

Hobson, associate director of the K-State engineering experiment sta tion, will talk on highway safety. Later programs will concern K-State's part in Kansas engineering problems, engineering research, and new developments in the K-State engineering school. KSC Health Fees Will Be Increased Shortly Fees for student health services at Kansas State college will have to be raised or the services reduced. Dr. Tom Lord, chairman of a college committee on student health, has reported.

The committee has proposed that the fee be raised from $7.50 to $10 a semester. Students are to vote on the. proposal Nov. 14 and 15. In addition to constantly rising costs, enrollment at K- State dropped this year so the health service has about $19,000 less income from fees than it had last year, Lord explained.

Last previous health fee increase was in 1943. DR. VAIL TO HOUSTON Gladys E. Vail, head of the department of foods and nutrition, left Friday to attend the annual meeting of the land grant colleges and universities 111 Houston, Tex. Vail is secretary of the research section of the home economics school.

Meetings are scheduled to begin Nov. 11 and continue through Nov. 15. Deaths and Obituaries To Bring Mrs. Denman Here For Last Rites Mrs.

Emma' Jane Denman, 29, formerly of Manhattan. died Monday in a hospital at Battle Creek, Mich. She moved with husband, Lt. Edwin J. Denman, when he was transferred to Germany in 1949.

WaS flown back to the United States for medical treatment about a year ago. Mrs. Denman was an employee of the Studio Royal while in Manhattan. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Methodist church. She was born Aug.

23, 1922. Surviving are: the widower and a daughter, Cynthia Jane Denman, her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Bertsch, 1215 Vattier, and a sister, Mrs. N. Sherwood, Coronado, Calif.

The body was brought to the Courser funeral home. Dr. F. Copeland Dies Here Friday Dr. J.

F. Copeland, 78, Rundolph dentist many years, died Friday at a local hospital. He retired about three years ago because of poor health. He was a master mason. Surviving are three daughters: Wichita; Miss Katherine Lyle Copeland, North Kansas City, and Mrs.

Warren Wohler of near Randolph. Private funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Chelander Eshbaugh chapel. Rector Green officiated. Burial was in Sunset cemetery.

Masons conducted graveside services. Hold Services Nov. 11 For Donald Walstrom Funeral services for Donald William Walstrom, 43, were held, 2 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Chelander -Eshbaugh chapel in Randolph.

J. W. Chelander was in charge of the services. Burial was in the Randolph cemetery. Mr.

Jane Denman Dies At Battle Creek, Mich. Mrs. Jane Denman, formerly of Manhattan, died Tuesday in a hospital at Battle Creek, Mic.1. She was an employee of the Royal when the family Studio, home here. Surviving are: her widower, Lt.

J. TAYLOR Wamego, Nov. 8- Funeral services were held at the Stewart funeral home here Nov. 2, for Harry J. Taylor, 76, who died of a heart attack at Genn Hospital in Wamego Oct.

30. The services were conducted by the Rev. J. Thompson Baker, Presbyterian minister, and burial was in the Wabaunsee cemetery. Harry J.

Taylor, the son Mr. and Oliver Taylor of New Waterford, Ohio, was born April 2, 1875. He came to Kansas at an early age and resided for many years in Wabaunsee county where he was a prominent farmer and stockman. He served four years in the Kansas House of Representatives from Wabaunsee county. His wife preceded him in death several years ago.

He is survived by a son, Bruce Taylor, of Bonner Springs. JOHN P. BAIR Wamego, Nov. 8 Funeral services were held Nov. 5 at the Stewart funeral home here for John P.

Bair, 79, who died Nov. 3 at his home in Wamego. The services were conducted by the Rev. Gordon Coldsmith, pastor of the Wamego Methodist church, and interment was in the Wamego cemetery. Graveside services were conducted by the Masonic lodge.

John P. Bair was born March 7, 1872, at Ohio Station, Ill. In early manhood he came to Belvue, in Pottawatomie county, and for 55 years was engaged in farming in that community. He was a member of the Belvue Methodist church and a member of Wamego lodge No. 75, A.

F. A. M. He married Mary Isabel McCoy Westmoreland, Dec. 30, 1891.

Survivors include: his widow. Mary the home; three sons, William and Glenn Bair, Wamego, and Roosevelt J. Bair, Corpus Christi, three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Cobb and Mrs. Tena Balderson, of Wichita, and Mrs.

20, Connersville, Ind. Dr. F. Croson Dies After Short Illness CLAY CENTER, Nov. 8-Dr.

F. R. Croson, 59, past president of the Kansas, state medical society and a prominent physician and surgeon, died last night in a Concordia hospital after a short illness. Dr. Croson retired from active medical practice last summer after a heart attack from which he recovered.

He had made plans to spend the winter in Mexico. He had traveled widely in recent years, visiting Europe and South and Central America. Born at Aledo, he was graduated from Northwestern university in Chicago and established practice here in 1925. He headed the Kansas State medical society last year. An active Rotarian, especially in international affairs he was voted an honorary membership when he retired.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. A. C. Fletcher, whose husband, a major in the army at Fort Riley recently returned from Korea. Funeral services were at the Presbyterian church here at 2 p.

Mark left the hospital recently after having been a patient there six weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Brees and children of St. Charles, will arrive in Manhattan next weekend to visit until Thanksgiving with Mr.

Earl Nelson have returned from Wichita Falls, where they spent the week. Frank M. Brooks Dies At Seneca Frank M. Brooks, 78, former Pottawatomie county probate judge, died Saturday at Seneca. He was born at McIntyre Creek and farmed in the area until 15 years ago.

He made his home at Seneca the last 10 years. He suffered a stroke about six months ago. Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Lucinda Brooks of the home; two sons, Carroll Brooks, Spencer, Iowa, and Dale Brooks, Mankato; three daughters, Mrs. George Burgess, Westmoreland; Mrs.

Edith Kimet, Beloit, and the former Frankie Brooks, now married and living at Walla Walla, a brother, Joseph K. Brooks, Manhattan, and a sister, Mrs. H. O. Pitman, Wabaunsee.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational church. The Rev. Richard of Seneca was in charge. Burial was in Sunset cemetery.

Mrs. Emma Amiss, 76, Dies At Wamego Sun. Mrs. Emma Amiss, 76, St. George, died Sunday at a Wamego hospital.

She had been a patient three days. She had been a resident the area 45 years. Her husband, John Amiss, died in 1947. She was born Aug. 26, 1875.

W. E. Holdren, and interment was in the Wamego cemetery. Fred Arthur Huggins, the eldest son of Charles J. and Mary Jane Huggins, was born Jan.

25, 1868, on the farm where he has lived his entire life, with the exception of five years which were spent on a farm north of Louisville when he child. He waived on the farm a mile and a half north of Wamego for 78 years. engaged in farming all his life. He helped operate the first threshing machine brought to this part of the country. On June 8, 1898, he married Viola Randall, of Louisville, at Westmoreland.

He is survived by: his widow. Mrs. Viola Huggins, of the home; two sons, Charles Arthur Huggins of Wamego, and John F. Huggins, of Glendale, one daughter, Mrs. Abigail Jane Fowkes, of Wamego; one Lucinda Ann Huggins, Glendale, two brothers, C.
