This midsummer meeting is the great event of the year for the Quakers on the South Pacific and is held at Whittier, their headquarters. The meeting just closed iias jurisdiction over a large territory, extending from San Jose to San Diego, and its business is of corresponding importance. Official representatives, as aa other members, were present from every congregation, save one, within the district named. The reports show a healthy growth and active evangelistic work throughout the church. were taken for the occupancy of several new parts in Orange and San Diego counties, and $400 was raised as the beginning of a fund to sustain an evangelist in the field.

The Friends in the territory named are still a part of lowa's yearly uneeting, but the increase of congregations on this coast assures the establishment of a yearly meeting here at no distant day. Jeremiah A. Grinnell, Aaron Huddleson, William H. Coffin, Mrs. Ella C.

Veeder, L. Jennie Lindley and Mi Mattie Andrews were appointed delegates to attend the annual meeting at Oskaloosa, lowa, in September. Mrs. V. M.

SANTA MONICA. The usual large crowd came down yesterday, visiting the camp and town. The mercury reached 78, with a charming breeze blowing, aud life was delightful from the southern boundary limit to Camp Johnson, where the boys were faithfully at work. Social life keeps apace with the season, and it may faithfully be said that the height of the summer outing season has arrived, and come to stay for a couple oi months, judging by the way the guests of the Arcadia talk and the members of Southern California's 400 talk. Mrs.

Senator Jones gave a german Monday evening at her palatial residence, on Ocean avenue. There were a large number of guests present, an elegant 6upper being served. The Ahrend orchestra furnished the music. The ladies of the Woman's relief corps will give an ice cream and dancing social at the opera house on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. C. Huntington Sumner, of New York, is visiting Santa Monica.

Mr. Huntington is related to the president of the Southern Pacific. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Abbott Kinney received the sad news of the death of their little son with great sorrow, and the sympathy of the entire community is toward the parents in their hour oi bereavement.

Colonel Hewitt, Abbott Robinson and H. D. La Motte, attended the city trustee meeting last evening, and on behalf of the Southern Pacific, asked for a franchise through the town along the base of the bluff for railroad purposes. Grand Martial Display at Coronado.

The grand martial display at Coronado, which at the present time is drawing crowds of people from all parts of the country, is an occurrence of unusual attraction this year. Representations of field tactics are given daily, while martial music in bugle calls and drum practice resounds through the air, recalling patriotic and chivalric days which tried the souls of the "true blue."
