But there is a ruu upon the treasury for gold; which they expect to continue indefinitely until the reserve fund is entirely exhausted. and that will be very shortly. Born To Mr.

To this union was born six sous and two daughters all surviving with their loving father, grand mother and her nine children aud hosts of friends iu the church aud out mourn their loss. To kuow bister Crow was to love her; she loved aud worked in the church with a good will. Her last privilege iu the church, was iu last May at our first quarterly conference held in Parker, Kaiis.

WASHINGTON LETTER. The plan of the politicians in to use the currency question during the campaign of '96. Berkhead was a welcome caller to-day. It is the first time he has been able to be in town for a long lime. He bas been qnite sick. Yesterday the thermometer registered 10 3 below zoro, at i'arlinville, and 4 in this city. It was the coldest morning so far this season.

The People's Pirty has always claimed that the dominant wing of both the old parties were a unit on the money queation and have had this as sertion postively denied by both the old parlies. On Wednesday, the Kan sas City Journal, the leading republican paper west of the Mississippi said the administration currency bill "will be in committee two or three days longer, but all agree it will be reported to the house in time; since the Republicans are disposed to cooperate with the ADMINISTRATION DEMOCRATS.

ests. The Republicans took advantage of the spleudid opportunity to haul tbe administration over tbo coals for its Hawaiian policy. After several weeks rest at his homo in Illinois. Chair nun Taubeneck has returned to this city. He is very hopeful and thinks the prospects of tbe People's party are good, provided the committee is able to open headquarters and push the work of organization and education.

A general appeal has been sent out to the populists papers to be published, that we may reach every populist iu the country, and are also sending out personal appeals to known friends of the party all over the country, with the hope that tbe committee mav se cure fuuds sufficient to maintain bend-quarters, and do the work that should be done before the national couveution meets in 1896. Thisia our only alternatives we have no trusts or corporations, like the two old parlies out of which to fry fat. We are coiu polled to rely upon small contributions from the people. If each man who voted the populist ticket last fall would contribute rive cents each, the committee would hnc all tbe fuuds it could use. If our people do not consider tbe People's partv of sufficient consiquencu to contribute a small amount for its support, then the party is dopnied to inglorious failure.

Tho nppeal now being sent out by the committee, will tell the storv iu a few weeks. The amount ronlibuted will indicate whether or not tho Populist party is to live or whether it is to dwindle aay and die. If there is nothing done to build up the party be fore the time for holding the national convention in 1890. there will be no necessity for holding any convention at all. One thing is certain, the national committee is going to do every thing in ititpqwerto put the party in condition to win a victory in 1SH6.

If we fail, great will be the failure, aud a dark fall of industrial slavery will set tie down upon the American people. All who love liberty will come to tbe help of the committee. J. II. Turner.

SIFT1NUS FROM EXCHANGES. Tbe revolt in Hawaii in which some Americans were killed and wounded, has been made tbe basis for a fresh attack on tbe president and administration. It is expected by some to con tied the administration with this revolt and the rumor of impeachment proceedings are again current. With the mouarehv restored, Clans Speckles, the stig-tr king, would virtually control those islands. And it must be remembered that the statement has been freely made that the large campaign fuml Mr.

Speckles devoted to the Dem-cratic committee, was made uuder promise that Mr. Cleveland if elected would restore tbe queen to tbe throne. Subsequent events Lave strengthenec this declaration into an almost certain ty. Upon such grounds it is expected the near tutu re will disclose that Presi dent Clevelau has again attempted to fultill his part of the compact. The House judiciary committee met yesterday moruing according to previ wanted it said of her when she fell that she fell at her post.

Richardson will manage the opera house and will make every effort to have nothing but first class entertainments and the very Voiceless sorrow; grief that is deeper and more lasting than any that death ever brings broken hopes, blighted lives and perpetual sadness are covered by the smiling mark of habit and education. One idol after another is shattered, but the well disciplined mind, after a little time, recovers its balance, the carefully trained hands remember their cunning, and, with no outward sign of in ward disolution, the shipwrecked spirit gathers up the remnant of its life and goes on just the same as be fore to do the next thing. Ex.

Special to the Torch. As might bare been expected, the gold bug press is now booming John Sherman ns a candidate for President in 1690. No doubt the Rothchilds would contribute liberally to the campaign of anv party that would nominate this despoiler of American pros perity. Should the gold-trust succeed in making him President of the United States, doubtless his portrait, now hanging in the Bank of England will be replaced by a statue in bronze or marble. Since rav last, he hns introduced a a bill in the senate, embodying his vievs on the financial question.

It provides for more bouds and the maintenance of the siDgle gold standard. When John Sherman can be elected president, this will be a good couutry trom which to iniigrate. The committee on banking and currency of the bouse are keeping them-Helves busy holding conferences and oaucusses, trying to devise some financial scheme that will puss hit house, but the task is becoming hopeless, it having developed that no two members of the. committee can agree on bill. The Democrats in both, house and senate, are becoming quite nervous as the session draw? to a close, for I lie are beginning to realize that if they do not pass Hiiiiii' measure that will relieve the country, the eternal doom of the Democratic party is fixed for ever.

One of the propositions under din cussion now, is to turn over all the silver bullion in the treasury, now bold as security, for tho Sherman notes, as an available asset and to Issue an equal amount of bonds for the redemption of low denomination Sherman notes. This, it is held, would increase the available assets in the treasury a bun dred and eighty odd millions, and re lieye the country from anv danger ot silver being offered in redemption of the Sherman notes. Some Democrats think it could be put through the house, since the incrensed silver circulation would be gratifying to silver men while the Sherman notes would be made gold notes, as they practically are under the present policy of the treasury, and the desired bond issue would be secured. There is a possibility of nn effort to secure tinancial legislation in the sen ate through an nuoeiidrueiit to one of the appropriation bills to be acted upon by the committee of appropriations. A canvass of the senate which has been made during the past ten davs or two wet'Ks, has convinced the lenders on both sides of the chamber that the conflict between the silver and the bond men renders it next to impossible to secure the passage of independent liuaucial or currency measure.

They have therefore within the past day or two quietly taken up the scheme of se curing the needed legislation bv adding tbe necessary provisions to one of the bills providing for the regular annual appropriations. It is not proposed by any one to attempt this however, nntil the last moment, when it becomes ah-solutelv certain that no legislatiou can be secured in any other way. So far this is only a suggestion of a way out of the difficulty. It bas gone so far, however, that there has been an exchange of views with some of the Republican senators. It is understood that tbe latter will not oppose any amendment which simply granted authority for an issue of bonds.

They say that if it becomes absolutely necessary to provide additional money for the government expenditures and for the maintenance of the gold reserve the Democrats can provide it bv agreeing to a bond amendment without weighing it down with best the town will support. On Monday Grover Cleveland, president of the United States, sent a special massage to Congress about the fioanoes of Ilia country, lie has reallv become concerned about our national finanoos and begs like a little child for bread and milk, that congressmen lay aside their partizanistn and vote for his measure. lie assigns as the real trouble, the old chronie desease of "lack of confidence," that there is a grave doubt felt as to the ability of the government to always pay its obligations in gold, to allay that doubt he recommends that fifty years bonds drawing 3 per cent interest be issued.

He says "I do not see why they should not be payable fifty years from their date, We of the present generation havo large amuunts to pay if we meet our obligations, and long bonds are most salable." He wants thet-e bonds plaoed in the hands of the banks, that the banks be allowed to issue circulation to their face value in notes not smaller than $10. lie reoommends that all duties be paid in gold. A Washington correspondent in the Sentinel reports that on last Saturday a delegation of New York bankers visited Washington and to evade public notice, quietly stopped at different hotels and pretended to have other business, one forgot to register two others pretended to be there to attend a banquet but all were in communication with each other.
