The a SOCIETY I Patricia Allen Will Be Carpenter Bride By NANCY RANDOLPH This town is so awash with Christmas wrappings and kindred sentiment that a number of Winter romances have bloomed unnoticed. Le So it will come as a surprise to the Four Hundred to learn that Mr. and Mrs. J. Roy Allen of Rye, (Foto by Ira L.

Hill) Angela Frances McCosker Jan. 26, the wedding day. N. and Manhattan, are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Patricia, to Francis Newton Carpenter a son of Mr. and Mrs.

Francis N. Carpenter of 108 E. 81st St. Pat was formerly married to Donald H. Gott.

After her Reno divorce in August, 1937, she took back her maiden name. She attended the Masters School and Miss Hewitt's Classes. Her future husband attended Williams College and was graduated from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the University Club of New York. Francis is a nephew of Mrs.

Charles King Morrison and of Mr. and Mrs. Knowlton B. Hoag. No date has been set for the wedding.

Romance Flares For Holiday. Add romance notes: Angela Frances McCosker, daughter of the Alfred J. McCoskers of New York and Spring Lake, N. whose engagement to Sheldon Van Dolen was announced some time ago, has set Jan. 26 as the date for her wedding.

marriage ceremony will be solemnized by the Rev. Joseph P. Connor of West Orange, N. and will take place at 4:30 P. M.

in the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, 84th St. and Park Avenue. With a brace of honor attendants and half-dozen bridesmaids, Angela is planning a large bridal entourage. Mrs.

James de Gerome will be matron of honor and Mary Elizabeth Portfolio will be maid of honor. The bridesmaids will include Antoinette Bond, Helen Nicklas, Mrs. Gerald H. Phipps, Mrs. Robert A.

Schmid, A. Norma Shea and Jane Veghte. The bridegroom-to-be, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence M.

Van Dolen, will have Frederick Blaicher as best man. Among his ushers will be Albert J. Borden, Woodrow W. Brown, John D. Foote, Dr.

James de Gerome, Henry M. Leslie, Frank W. Nesbitt, Robert A. Schmid, Charles Werner and Lawrence Van Dolen Sheldon's brother. Following their honeymoon trip, the couple will make their home in New York.

Vicount and Lady Hinchingbrooke, who were the traveling companions of the Anthony Edens in New York, were careful to do no publicity stealing, but they have been getting about to all the better nighteries. When Henry Leggett gave a party for them the other DAILY NEWS, MONDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1938 night at Le Coq Rouge, (which has just had its face lifted,) the orchestra leader dedicated The Berkeley Square Dance" (the Lambeth Walk, to you) to the distinguished couple. They applauded in appreciation, but didn't dance, to the great disappointment of Baron and Baroness Wedellsborg, Mrs. Hollister Sturgis, Mrs. Sumner Taylor, John Bame, and Lawrence Tompkins, who were Mr.

Leggett's other guests. Hail the best-dressed woman of 1938-39, Madame Antenor Patino. She is the former Dona Christina de Bourbon, wife of the Bolivian Minister to the Court of St. James. Madame Patino, who is the daughter of the Duke and Duchess de Durcal, married the tin plate heir in 1931, and with her impeccable taste and a fortune, reported to be in the neighborhood of 000,000, has taken over the rank which was held by the Duchess of Windsor last year.

All of her clothes are designed by Mainbocher, an American boy who made good in Paris. It is interesting to note that second place is held by the Duchess of Windsor, who takes precedence over the Luchess of Kent, in clothes, if not in royalty's hallowed social coterie. Marina (the Duchess of Kent) is England's unofficial style arbiter, and the new setup may confirm her belief that there isn't a Santa Claus.
