"Andalusische Naechte" (Anda lusian 'Nights), UFA picture di-j xected by Herbert Maisch and presented at the 86th St. Garden. the cast: Carmen Imperio Argentina Jose Navarro Friedrich Btmfefr Antonki Vargas Heredia-Karl Kliiesncr Salvador Erwin Bicrel Cafe Kurt, gpilcrl Dolores- Martrit Symo Fortune Teller. Maria Koppcnhoefer VTaitress Milena von Eckartlt Major Ramirei Edwin Juersensen Mulcro Ernut Leiral Triuui Han Hiwinr Libert Venolir Although "Andalususche Naechte" seems foreign to Germanic studios in regard to subject matter as well as its presentation, this new film at 86th St. Garden provides an artistic, beautifully mounted story ith a femme fatale as its nucleus.

Laughter Veils Tragedy-Long before a grimacing old witch tells Carmen that those who love her shall die, there is an undercurrent of tragedy through the film. Beneath the veil of laughter and song runs a somber theme about a young Spanish officer forced to deny the army or the girl he loves. But, the siren is more powerful than the bugle. Jose Navarro's failure to jail his lovely prisoner results in court-martial. Carmen saves Jose from his prison sentence by persuading her outlaw friends to waylay the escorting guard and spirit her lover to a mountain hideaway.

Jose then joins their band of smugglers. Between Love and Duty. Excitement and suspense have the last few innings, with Jose again vascillating between love and duty as the smugglers set a trap for the pursuing army force. Imperio Argentina sings and dances her way to stellar honors. Although new to the screen, her performance in "Andalusische Naechte" is worthy of a veteran.

Masculine honors go to Friedrich Benfefr, Karl Kluesner and fcrnst Legal. "Magdat KicsapjaV (Magda Is Expelled), Harmonia film story and screen play by Miklos Kadar and Eri Halasz Imre, directed by Laszlo Vajda and presented at the Modern Playhouse. An amusing, credible premise is padded with humurous complications to keep Modern Playhouse audiences in chuckles.

It seems that the textbook for a letter-writing course in a certain commercial school for girls uses a Mr. Alfred Harvey of Liverpool, England, as a mythical correspondent. And it so happens that the class instructor, being something a romanticist, writes him a letter which gets into the mailbox by a circuitous route. For comedy purposes there really is an Alfred Harvey, also a ro MUSIC umO. AM IMPORTANT CAST RKO PALACE and BROOKLYN PARAMOUNT "Four Daughters," Lan i Sisters.
