J. ERNEST WALKER 14-16 South Second Ave. NEW YORK FASHIONS Princess Effects: Eton Coats: Fan: Coats and Jackets: Auto.Coats. A marked ft ii.ure of the xj resent stylo is the tendency to Prirtcess effects. Only tiie woman of perfect figure can wear the regular Princess gown, where the lines are unbroken from neck to hem, but the new modes show many variations of the idea that can be worn becomingly by the average woman.

Princess skirts when; Ihi material is continued above the waist line in a girdle or bodice form are especially popular. In the bodice style, coming well up under the arm, tlies'j are becoming only to slender figures. On the other hand, where they take the form of a shaped girdle high In the back and sloping Xft the waist line In front, they are becoming to many women of decidedly full figure, but they are not skirts to be attempted by the amateur dressmaker, as the slightest deviation in line is fatal tc thoir success. ETON COATS WITH PRINCESS SKIRTS. With the Princess skirt the loose short Eton coat is modishly worn and a well-fitting bodice is the invariable accompaniment of these coats, as It shows below them and defines the waist line becomingly and offers great opportunity for dressy effects, in the contrasts of material and in its finishings buttons, buckles, bows, etc.

These short loose coats seem to be equally becoming to very stout or very thin figures. If the figure is full, the girdle should be of the same color as the suit. With slender figures the girdle may be of brocades in contrasting colors. ADMIRERS AND PURCHASERS. Fur garments (in larger numbers) are enjoying the unrivaled display to be found in the new emporium of C.

C. Shayne, one of the handsomest fur establishments to be found in the world, beautiful and appropriate in every respect. This new edifice will mark a now epoch in the fur manufacturing business, and demonstrates the fact that conditions demanded, in order to keep pace with the other branches of commerce, have been successfully met. The popular pelts of the season are Russian and Hudson Bay sables, ermine, chinchilla, seal, Persian lamb, Alaska sable, lynx, baum marten and the cheaper grades for use In automobile garments and fur-lined coats. COATS.

The shield-front, tight-fitting coat, which can be worn closed or thrown open forming revers, come In seal, broadtail, Persian lamb and caracul. Loose and half-fitting, collarless box coats come in the same furs and In lengths from twenty-two to forty-six Inches. Straight front and tight back coats (Russian style) are shown with large soft collars. Very elegant buttons distinguish coats of mink, the cheaper grades with squirrel or marmot. Some of the auto coats are made entirely of Russian pony.

SHOULDER CAPES. The costliest of these are of ermine, Russian or Hudson Bay sable, the price of many of them reaching a sum denoted by four figures. Most of them reach to the shoulder tips; others are larger, and a fringe of tails ornament the cape and extend half way the length of the stole fronts. Chinchilla capes are more than ever esteemed, some being quite large. White fox and ermine are also employed for capes-with long ends.

FLAT BOAS AND NECK PIECES are made of mink, oftentimes with a finish of tails, and where the muff matches that also is similarly trimmed. Black lynx, Alaska sable and baum marten are favorite furs for boas. Cravats are made of chinchilla and other furs, but ermine is supreme for this purpose. Large, pillow muffs are of one fur, or of beautiful combinations of ermine and any contrasting fur. ILLUSTRATION.

Thanks are due the McCall the makers and designers of Fashion, for handsome illustration shown above. ROBE GOWNS AND WAISTS. On every hand the enterprising stores are selling large numbers of what are known as "Robe Gowns." These are gowns embellished with various elaborate trimmings ready to be put together with the least possible trouble as to time and skill and producing marvelously beautiful toilettes that rival the productions of the most skillful modistes. With the advent of the gay season which begins here with the opening of the horse show and the opera season, there is great demand for gowns of especial elegance. Lace robes are fascinating beyond words, and in black and white, are capable of so many and such easy transformations that any woman who aspires to being smart is justified in adding at least one lace dress to her winter outfit.

Spangled laces are as much worn as ever, but more frequently than not they are combined with other lace In patterns or "motifs," as the French say it. Thus a gown of black spangled net will have shaped pieces inserted of black Bilk Brussels Iff! 1 will I ir'-'J'jjf 7 Vi! or Cluny lace, and the robe will be made up over white silk, with several sets of accessories, belt, bodice, garniture, so that a number of different color effects may be obtained. In many cases the black'robes have plastrons, or yokes, of white lace. ROSALIND MAY. FOUR MEN KILLED.
