The School closing studied Parents of children at Lakeside Heights School in Pointe Claire plan to meet with Lakeshore School Board (LSB) officials tonight to discuss the proposed closing of their school. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in Lakeside Heights school, which the board announced last week it would probably close, along with three others. But commissioners said they would consult parents about the decision first. LSB officials said recent budget restrictions imposed by the provincial education department would give the board a deficit next year if it doesn't shut the schools.

Some parents said last week they were prepared for the closures because three of the target schools Briarwood, Oak Ridge and Dorion Gardens were earmarked for closure two years ago because of declining enrolments. A board policy requires that any school operating below 50 per cent of its functional capacity be considered for closure. Homicide suspect gives up A 25-year-old Montrealer, sought on a coroner's warrant in connection with the beating-death of a young man 19 months ago, surrendered to Montreal Urban Community (MUC) police homicide detectives yesterday. The man, Gerard Delaurier, 25, was accompanied by defence lawyer Franklin D. Shoofey when he gave himself up at police headquarters on Bonsecours St.

Delaurier was detained for questioning in connection with the death of Andre Lauzon, 34, whose body, was found in an east-end field in August, 1979. PR firm retained Several weeks of heated debate by Pointe Claire city council ended last night when the city voted to renew its contract with a Montreal public relations firm. Two councillors had argued strenuously against the continued use of the firm, Berger and Associates, which has been handling Pointe Claire's public relations for almost a decade. During public and closed meetings in recent weeks the two council members argued Pointe Claire should handle its own public relations. The public relations contract will cost Pointe Claire just over $17,000 during the next year.

Potholes attacked Pointe Claire city council last night approved the expenditure of $845,000 to rebuild three pothole-ridden streets. Work on Donegani Ave. between Valois Bay and Ashgrove Avenues, and on Spartan Crescent and Walton will likely begin by early summer. Disabled get ramp The entrance to Pointe Claire city hall will soon include a ramp for the handicapped. Pointe Claire city council last night approved plans to build the $4,000 ramp, starting in late spring or early summer.

The conciliator, Jean-Louis Duchesne, is expected to call both parties to the bargaining table this week.

Duchesne's appointment followed a plea for help from the union. Workers Sunday voted down a proposal giving the union executive a mandate to call a strike. That vote came one week after they narrowly rejected the company's "final" contract offers that would have increased the average hourly wage of $7.89 by $2.26 over three years.
