Pleaded Guilty IHscJianjetl from Cus- tody. March GeorgoCrawford, arrested last Thursday for robbing a safe, pleaded guilty to-day to the charge of petit larceny. He was sentenced to sixty days in the County Jail. Dr. Fernando Rogler, an old and prominent citizen, killed himself to-day at noon by blowing the top of his head off with navy revolver. Death was instantaneous. No cause is assigned. The decease leaves a family veil provided for.

A man named J. A. Gili'iami, alias J. A. Bowles, surrendered himself to Sheriff Crittenden this morning, claiming to be a refugee from the Texas State Prison.

He says that he killed a man named Samuel Stephens, on account of family troubles, and was convicted of the murder and sentenced to prison for ten years. After serving eighteen months, he escaped while working on a railroad, and for some years has been a tramp from town to town, working as a harness maker whenever he a job. He I us letters of recommendation from numerous bosses where he baa worked. About two years ago he received a letter stating that the day he escaped the Ciovernoi pardoned him. vrlncb was afterward revoked, and the matter so affected his mind that he determined to surrender himself to the authorities, lie is in jail awaiting the action of the Texas authorities.

This morning Jeans Liveras, charged with rape upon a Spanish girl at Quartxburp, 1 1 isa county, a few days ago, was brought in from Fresno county, and is in jail here awaiting the arrival of Ihe Sheriff of Mariposa county. Threats of lynching him have been made by the people of Hornitos and Quartzbnrg, and it is said that attempts were made to shoot him at Madera last night while he was confined in the calaboose. In attempting to board an engine while it was backing up the switch track, he stepped on the beam and reached for the top of the tank, but missed his hold and fell on the track, the engine passing over and mutilating him in a horrible manner, He was conscious when ho was picked up, but died almost immediately.

The engineer was not aware of the accident until he saw the bod; lying on the track in front of the engine. Convicted of Murder the Second Sosora, March Indian Lee has been convicted of murder in the second degree for killing a Chinaman at Montezurua a few weeks ago. Sodden Death of a Prominent Sonoka, March Caleb Dorsey, one of our leading lawyers, died quite suddenly at his family residence last evening of spasmodic affection of the throat. Daring the day and evening he was in his usual health and spirits. His sudden death has cast a gloom over our city, Mr. Dorsey came to California, in 1850, and has resided here since that time.

He has held the position of District Attorney of Tuolumne county several times. He was at the time of his death a Regent of the State University and a Director of the Stockton Insane Asylum, having been appointed recently by Governor Stoneman: He was a native of Maryland. Trial Trip Over a New Railroad. Fbascisco, March The first train of the California and Nevada Narrowgauge, composed of a locomotive, tender anil one passenger car, made its initial regular trip from Oakland to San Pablo yesterday. The design is to extend the road from" tide water at San Francisco bay, at Emery station, Alameda county, to the line which' divides California from Nevada, running through Stockton or Modesto to terminus in the vicinity of the Candelaria district.

Cain, a wealthy rancher of Colusa county, and keeper of a large stock-yard on -McAllister street, in tin's city, was a man of very parsimonious habits. He was married, and had a daughter 4 years old. For some time past he has complained of what he denominated his wife's extravagance. Coming home yester- lay he saw a pair of new slippers in her room, which so enraged him that be threw them into the street and roundly abused his wife. To-day he came home again, when he found hid wife preparing toremove their child to an upper room of their house, 113 Mason street, in order that she might obtain fresher air, as the child was dying of diphtheria.

A Murderer's Doom. March Clarence Gray, the murderer of K. H.Scott, was sentenced yesterday to be executed at a time to be fixed by warrant. To-day the warrant was given to the Sheriff, and the time fixed is May 22d, A motion for a new trial was overruled. OKKCMHT.

Damages Recovered. Portland, March 28ib. can of Henry A. Withrow against the Oregon and California Railway to recover $40,000 damages for the maiming oi his infant child, was concluded yesterday in the State Circuit Court for Yamhill 'county. The jury brought in a verdict for $15,000.
