TMS realm am The Canada Post Office will issue a 5 cent stamp June 5 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the perilous four-month voyage of discovery by the Nonsuch into Canada's northern1 waters. Canada, in dark blue lettering, is printed vertically at the extreme left of the stamp; immediately adjacent is the artist's concept, of the Nonsuch with billowing sails proceeding in relatively calm blue seas against a backdrop corner in a sky of blue; at the lower right, in an area of dark blue water, white lettering consists of "Voyage of the Nonsuch" and "Voyage du Nonsuch" arranged' in three lines to a void repetition of the vessel's name. The superstructure and masts of the ship are chiefly of a golden oak hue; pennants flying in the wind are in red and white.

The sta'tmp was designed by the British American Bank Note Company Limited, Ottawa, whose facilities will be used to print 24 miHion of the new issue by a combination of steel engraving and photogravure. The 43 ton ketch the "Nonsuch" sailed from Gravesend June 3, 1668, and1 arrived in James Bay at the mouth of the Rupert River Sept. 29. The crew encountered the Cree Indians, who displayed a significant lack of hostility, and' were obliged to winter there as the ship became immobilized by the heavy ice. The commanded by Capt.

When they decided to make a go of it together in Miami in 1961 they started something that others have tried to imitate but in vain.

They operate as a team completely, although either could be a star in his own right. Their voices work in perfect counterpoint and their choreography is nothing short of fantastic. They're at The Esquire Show Bar on Stanley starting Monday and will do a special teen matinee next Sunday. Tickets are available for the matinee now you'd better enquire soon. MUSICAL NOTES: Some of today's wilder music is the target of a lot of critcism and it's usually undeserved.

Jimi Hendrix is a good example. If you cut straight into the middle of one of his singles you might find what seems like an awful lot of noise. But if you'd listened to the record right through that "noise" in the middle would somehow have a meaning. There's a very thin thread that runs though the music and binds his stuff together. So we come to the point a group called Blue Cheer, who are doing well with a single "Summertime Blues" and an album, "Vincebus Somehow they just don't make it.

That thread just doesn't seem to exist. What emerges is one guitar technique that is flogged to the point of death, some of the "shouting" kind of singing that works sometimes, but not here, and a record that has it's moments, but they're only very few and far between. Blue Cheer seem to have one good point, however. They demonstrate just how difficult modern music can be and what happens when there's something missing. That point is probably not talent.

They wouldn't be the object of a big promotional push if they weren't talented but it seems they haven't turned the corner to greatness like Hendrix' group or The Cream. But to be fair, they're not too far from that point either. By Sam Bridge is one of the few card games that doesn't need backing your play with money to an extra kick out of it. And it doesn't carry the old-time stigma of card-playing, like "what a bum you're going to be," just because you play cards. Bridge has reached such a popularity that parents have taught and encouraged their children to play the game.

This brings to mind golden opportunity for the Montreal Bridge League, to invest some of the $10,000 surplus from last summer's national championships. At a very small cost the league could co-sponsor with parent-teacher and or home and school groups bridge activity in high schools next fall. There are many good players and teachers in this city who would gladly give up an bour or two a week to teach youngsters tlhe game. It wouldn't take long before young high schoolers would invade our sectional tournaments and their entry fees will bring a return on the league's investment. Within a year teenagers would be able to form inter-school bridge rivalry that would add zest to this activity.

Every high school home and school group should welcome such an opportunity to help 28 Caves for short. 31 Laurel. 32 Budgetary notation: 2 words. 33 Footwear. 35 Love.
